Free to a good home -- 1950's Peugeot PC40 frame/fork

Update: no longer available

I bought this frame over the weekend to save it from a scrap metal fate and give a modest donation to the co-op that sold it. Realistically, I will never get around to either restoring it or making it a custom gem. I'd like to give it to someone with good intentions and interest, not someone who will turn around and hawk it on eBay. We're on the honor system here, and I trust you folks a heck of a lot more than I would a goofball on Craigslist.

At this point, it is local pick-up only (SF Bay Area) because I don't want to deal with shipping, but if there is no interest for some time (I dunno, a couple of weeks?), I will consider shipping if you cover the cost.

It's a 57.5cm CTC top tube, 55.5cm CTC seat tube. The paint is in bad shape, but the rust looks superficial -- lots of healthy steel underneath, and the original decals are good enough to get measurements for placing new decals if you want to restore it. Under the grime at the bottom bracket, the original paint is good enough to give you a color match. As far as I can tell, all of the braze-ons are intact -- rear derailleur, top tube shifter, generator mount, cable guides, lighting wire guides (including the old wire to demonstrate the routing), chain guard mounts, and centerpull brake mounts.

You can find more pics here: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...-purchase.html. Incidentally, the seat post in the original set of pics slid right out -- I have no idea if it's the right size, because it took a little coaxing, but you can have it nevertheless.

PM me here and we can work out details. Thanks!

Cool bike, neat project, my size, and I’m glad you’re not local

Bumpity bump for the weekend, Bay Area folks...

Interesting..... I'm a bit far to the east though. Way over here on the other side of the Mississippi (heck, the other side of Lake Michigan....).

I have been toying with the idea of trying to find a frameset I could braze a boss on for for Jan Heine's push-me/pull-me derailleur.

I'll watch this space in case you start thinking about shipping it.
Hopefully it'll get scooped up to a new home right quick!
ciao

I will add myself to the shipping queue if nobody local takes it.

The grime almost looks like tar paper for roofing...?

It’s kinda silty and comes off easily with a thumbnail. Apparently blocks UV, because directly underneath, the paint looks pretty good. Currently residing in the garage, so no more UV to worry about.

I hate to say it, but after tripping over the frame a couple of times and recognizing I have no space for it, I ended up just donating it back to the co-op today, so hopefully they will make a few more bucks from selling it again. The staffer who accepted it was excited to learn the few details I could pass along.

Sorry, folks — I just have too much going on to deal with it, but I’m sure it will find a good home.
