Cassette removal tool...Sun Run?

My grandson's little Trek 7-speed mountain bike has a cassette lock ring labeled:
Sun Run 40N.m

The locking ring has 12 teeth, and is about 31mm wide.
Any idea where I could find this tool, or an equivalent?
Thanks!

Sure it's not a Sun Race FREE WHEEL, not cassette?

It's a Free Wheel.
Likely uses the tool I linked to. Can't count the splines though, since the nut obscures them.
The splines I think you refer to are for disassembling the FW, not removal.

SunRun the new Laxative brand from Maeda Industries. You will have a Superbe bowel movement when you Sprint to the toilet. We call it the New Winner Accush t system but you can just call it SunRun.

This is it exactly, and, good news, I already had the tool.
Silly of me not to recognize this, but I don't have much experience with the newer stuff, and had never heard of Sun Run.

You guys are the best, thanks again!

Hello!
I have the same.. sun run, 12 splines, calculated 30 to 32 mm diameter

Can you confirm which tool did you use? I can't find the specifications, and the one that's linked above doesn't seem to be correct....

Thank you!

That should be the correct tool.

Make sure the area where the tool goes is free from sand and other gunk, try blowing it out with an air hose gun before inserting the tool. Other issues may be a bent axle partially causing blocked access, if that is the case, you may need to remove the axle's lock nut first.

Don't mean to revive an old thread, but can anyone identify the larger spline tool for the lockring?

This is a freewheel with a cassette. Yes.

I'm not talking about the Parktool FR1.3 to remove the freewheel from the wheel.

We need a bigger tool to undo the lockring to get the cassette off the freewheel.

You dont do that or a thousand insignificantly small bearings will scatter across your floor and bench. Although removing the larger lock ring will let you access the gears they are don't have typical cassette splines and there aren't aftermarket replacements, you just replace the whole freewheel.

You will not find a cassette on the freewheel. You'll find a stack of threaded cogs that don't have replacements.

It's a $15 freewheel.

Put a towel under it.

I just came across this today. Many freewheels that require a splined freewheel tool…Shimano, SunRun, etc…can be removed using the head of a 13/16th hex nut, or a 13/16th Allen wrench. Also the hex end on some sockets is 13/16. I tried it. Fits perfectly.

Everyone here has missed the point.

Removing the freewheel off the hub is not the issue. The Parktool FR1.3 does exactly that. That Youtube video above is moot.

Opening the freewheel to service the pawls and 39 bb's on the bottom and 31 bb's on the top is not the issue. The Parktool SPA2 does exactly that.

It's the lockring that binds doesn the splines. So the splines can be removed from the freewheel.

Nope. I specifically addressed this in my post, and you didn't listen.

Freewheels don't have cogs compatible with cassettes, and you can't use splined cassette cogs on them. This particular freewheel has replacement parts available and was not intended to be disassembled, which is why there is no tool available commercially to remove the cog lockring.

If you just want to make belt buckles out to he cogs, cut the lockring with a grinder. Otherwise, I don't know why you would take this apart.

Who said I was repairing or replacing anything?

Don't worry about it.

Presuming you meant "so the sprockets can be removed" - loosen the lockring with a hammer and cold chisel, or weld something to it that's easy to grip.

Not user removable. No tool available.

Understand?

This reminds me of the famous Ken M who would inject ridiculously uninformed statements into message boards and FB posts just to watch people argue with each other.

Kenneth McCarthy (born c. 1980),[1] popularly known as Ken M, is an Internet troll known for his comments on news websites such as Yahoo! and The Huffington Post. Unlike the more common associations for the term troll on the internet, Ken's comments are usually benign, with his comments displaying a complete lack of understanding of the featured topic, while other commenters take him seriously.[2]
