Too Bright

I got some feedback from some of the club members of my new Giro VR Touring shoes. Some of them thought they "were too bright". (For club or everyday use.) I like the shoes. Are they "too bright" for commuting? Should I return them to the shop? Computer pictures don't show the true color of the shoes, only bright Sunlight does. What should I do? I was thinking of throwing some dirt on them to tone them down so I don't get nasty feedback next time I ride with club members.:notamused:

Pay no attention to what others say. I you like them, keep them.

Picture isn't showing for me. :p

As a commuter, anytime I get flak about my appearance, “mission achieved”.

They’ll get used to it.

Remind the complainers that they only see your shoes when they're riding behind you.

I have those shoes. Giro Rumble. I got the fluorescent green ones. Black laces, so no one has ever said anything bad about them (to me). I love them, except that you MUST undo at least three courses of eyelets to get them on or off! But for the price I paid ($60) I am not complaining. The orange ones are cool in their own way. Rock on.

If I'd started to get comments like "Yer skivvies're showin'!" then I might take action.

But with the colors of things, or how things are matching (or, more likely, mismatching) ... meh. Is what it is. And if it's something I like then another's concern isn't really an issue for me. But, that's me.

I'd think if you're okay with the color of something you should be okay with it. Then, revel in the fact you're "a unique" out there. Isn't much of a bad thing.

Fashion is important! Denying this by pretending to be stoic and iconoclastic is a pretty normal way try to salvage some dignity. Taking the risk is better, but not reliable.

Bright is good, isn't it? Don't cyclists want to be visible and seen?

Show up with these:

"And...?" Invite them to justify their complaints so everyone can hear how dumb they sound.

Pugs2xLove 05-26-22 05:17 PM

Unless they paid for your shoes, then I wouldn't sweat it. If the shoes work for you (performance and style wise), they just need to deal and get over it.

OmegaWolf 05-26-22 07:51 PM

Your shoes are so bright they gotta wear shades.

Colorado Kid 05-30-22 04:44 AM

You guys' are so cool. Thanks! What is the brightest shoe out there? Come on, show me you bright shoes.

Not cycling shoes, but here is a pair of Brooks GTS behind my wife's dirty dog I used for a half marathon. Other members of my group would joke about their bright color but it was simply that, joking. I suspect your group is kidding about your new shoes as well. These are retired from running now, but I still keep them for kicking around or riding my older bikes with straps and cages.

If you're told your lights are too bright, maybe think about it. If it's your shoes... as in, they simply don't like the color? Really? Are these people five years old? Offer to rectify the problem by kicking your foot where the sun don't shine.

This is the correct answer, commuting should be fun and if what I'm wearing or riding isn't "too bright" then I need to try again.
