Oh, your Sports is very nice, no doubt, and you're free to ask whatever you want if you ever decide to sell it. I'm just making the point that in general the market in the Boston area for these bikes is in the $150 range, give or take $50 depending on condition and components. Here's a 23" Sports for $150 on today's CL (though not the original saddle):

I just got this 76 Raleigh Sports. My dad got it free when someone was getting ready to dump it off at goodwill. Its in excellent shape as far as the paint and all go. Could use a tuneup, cleaning, adjust the seat height and bars, and a new saddle. Pretty nice bike though.

nice bikes the bunch but spend a few hours cleaning them . not a clean hub in the bunch . broken cables ... bikes are like cars . people want the originals . these thing have chrome rims on them and they shine up pretty good . presentation ..http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...pshcoenz3k.jpghttp://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...psyzy04xt4.jpg

@nlerner, Boston is a hot market for bikes, but you got me thinking. It's a great place to buy a 3 speed but a bad place to sell one. They go for more here, consistently.

Oh, the vast majority of the CL sellers ask for very high prices for Raleigh 3-speeds and the like, but at the same time very good deals can be had regularly. I think it's likely because there are just lots and lots of old 3-speeds sitting in people's garages around here.

To be fair, all I know are asking prices, not selling prices, so my view may be skewed. I am just not shocked or outraged when someone asks $200 for a 3-speed in decent condition.

anyone know what this saddle might be or if it's an original? looks there was some sort of tag on it between those 2 rivets that was removed on the back...this is on my 76 Raleigh sports. I was thinking about replacing it, but it looks pretty cool and feels pretty good

Brooks actually made mattress saddles like that for 3-speeds and such in the mid to late 70s.

OK, THAT'S a Raleigh Tourist I'd pay $425 for. Really nice.

this one sold on ebay for 299.00 79 shipping Vintage Mens Raleigh Sports 3 Speed Made in England Brooks Saddle | eBay

forestine 01-29-15 06:43 PM

It looks like a quilted version of the saddle my Glider has. The busted logo ends look like mine (but I have the B and S still). I wonder if it's cushier.

And this one got no bids at $130 (perhaps because shipping was so high). Prices can be all over the map.

Do they still make fly paper? :roflmao2:

Seriously, no. Highly doubtful.

Did I just date myself? Well, I'm pretty sure they still do.

And you misunderestimate yourself, to paraphrase our previous president.

Hey y'all. I picked up a mid 70s Tourist cheap last night. Its in good condition and does not seem to need a lot of service. I got it because I wanted to find out what that relaxed geometry is all about. But one thing I don't get is the brakes. They have a reputation for not stopping in wet conditions. Dry they work fine.

What I want to know is why they did it this way on this model. Durability?? Seems unlikely... My guess is that is an old design that never got put to bed. Anyone know what's up with them? I'm just really curious. Its a tall gentlemanly ride... Even though its a tall frame I feel like the bars are too far back.

Why does it seem Tourists are more sought after than Superbes...even though the Superbe cost more new?
