absolute ton of e-bikes ridden in san clemente to/from trestles and elsewhere by the surfers.

The wife and I have been hiking on the multi-use trails in Crystal Cove State Park and it's surprising how many of the mountain bike riders are on electric bikes.

I just try to avoid e-bikes. Staying in the hills, I rarely see them.

Seems like it's always the homemade ones that burn.

I commute on the local MUPs. Ebikes are incredibly rude.

When I see them on the road they don't really bother me that much. But when I see them on a trail it seems like someone is riding a dirt bike (motorcycle) that an regular bike.

yeah you can tell by frame that it’s not a real ebike but one of the many dangerous toy electric motorcycles skirting around the rules.

At what point do motorized bicycles and scooters become motorized vehicles and should be regulated as such? Unpopular opinion, most cycling incidents I have seen or been apart of, have been because one or more parties were being stupid. The car that almost hit you would do so if you were in a car. Its not personal. Add a generation that can't even drive, and people who would have otherwise self selected themselves out of cycling, and give them a motor? But the state would have to enforce any of its current laws and there is a reason insurance is high in California (look for how many expired tags you see on the road; they're not insured and probably aren't licensed).

The solution is to make any accident presumed liability on the unlicensed vehicle, & make the penalty for any unlicensed vehicle automatic impoundment.

I'll bet the insurance & tow companies would back such a measure.

Relatively speaking most of the country is not like this. That's why California has higher insurance and other rates. Either you pay on the front end or the back end. No really, the amount of ignorance of how the rest of the country actually lives is akin to the propaganda from the DPRK.

There is an endless stream of unlicensed &/or out of state license plates present in the most economically vibrant, diverse & growing-est part of the country in which I reside. Those entitled & unlicensed, often self-righteous & proud people come here fleeing an absence of opportunity & economic stagnation in their home state/region.

All unlicensed vehicles with expired tabs I saw on a 15 mile drive around town this morning.

Where the tax dollars flow is a matter of public record & there is no need to quantify who carries who & who has no idea the socialism they are on the receiving end of. Doing so will quickly take this thread to P&R never to return. It really doesn't matter.

Let's leave this as is & just agree that for the most part that yes, California sucks, it isn't particularly exceptional in it's deviation from the mean. People are people & we have a real problem looking at ourselves in the mirror.

the point when you stop pedaling or pedaling as much and are doing unrealistic for a bicycle ridiculous speeds. The law already decided long ago, 28mph is more than enough. I can already stomp out 26 on my non-motorized Wilier TT bike and it’s a pretty satisfying speed. Gets me up the San Gabriel to Walmart and back in no time.
