Who wants to discuss my seat post woes?

Sure.

I need to get a proper seatpost for the Schwinn.

I've ridden from the TH on New River Rd up to Rock Springs and back. I've heard that's the hard part, and yep a lotta tough climbs.

Someday wanna get dropped off at the Northern terminus and ride all the way home. Probably 2 days to make 'em easyish days.

OK, by popular demand, here it is.

You may recall I got the rjones28 saddle, but it's rails are different and it wasn't fitting in my seatpost saddle clamp.

I went to the bike store and ordered what I naively thought was a whole thing. Turns out it's only the "ears" (metal thing that secures the rails).

That solves one problem, but I still have another one--the rails barely have any clearance to the width of the seatpost itself And the black parts that insert into both sides of the seatpost protrude slightly, so the rails don't slide all the way down to the flat part where it's supposed to seat.

I'm not seeing where I could order a different version of the black parts, so it seems my options are:

(1) try to force the saddle on there (hammer the ends further inside the posts?)

(2) take to bike shoppe

What would you do?

I would break out a flat file and a rattail file and use them on the black parts 'til everything was copacetic.

Actually I'd probably just get a Thomson seatpost, but if I couldn't get a Thomson seatpost for some reason...

Uggggh. Just realized my phone was autocorrecting to Thompson.

Hmm, I'll have to investigate that option. Never done much filing before.

The seatpost is otherwise suitable for my purposes.

Is this on a Trek? That's the same clamp mechanism that was on my Domane. A bit finicky to set up. I'd double-check that the mating surfaces of the post and the black conical pieces are clean. Other than that, I don't know why they'd be protruding too much. Well, unless you have the wrong parts.

Yes. I'll re-examine the fit, but I did clean everything when I took it apart.

No idea. I've used Thomson on everything once I got tired of breaking seatposts. The exception is the KS Lev dropper on my mtb.

Finally. Social distancing is no longer required here.

I haven't even made it onto the bottom of the leaderboard. It's probably been two weeks since I rode a bike. Working from home with the onset of winter has it's disadvantages.

This little guy was our first houseguest. At least he was only on the doorstep.

The cat loves those things. We have a surprising variety of colors of them, based on what he leaves laying around. Kudos on the move. Home ownership is the schiz

There's always room at the bottom.

And it's just the round bore in the post? It isn't a bore with a pinch bolt?

noodle soup 06-08-20 06:12 AM

67 degrees at 5am in Sun City AZ. It might not hit 90 today.

"...humbling for me as an academic...."
I didn't think this was possible :)

Eight km ride yesterday, on the little bike. I slept better last night than I have in a month. I awoke feeling human, and whole. The Trek 414 is out on the porch prepped and ready to go. The tail light is charging. There will, of course, be a test ride on the bike path out front, to see if I'm roadbike capable.
Addicted, and happy
Edit: I just realized that was my first ride in two months.

Why do you need a tail light?
