Agreed. People who did pencil math for years were called, "computers."

I'm slide rule years old and used slide rules in my job before calculators were available to the masses.

Heavy weather is coming in tonight and tomorrow. I need to get the yard mowed but want to get a ride in also. Going to be tough because I have a hairs appointment this AM and shower chances increase by noon.

As an adult, mowing will come first, then hairscut, then ride if there is still a window to do it in without drowning. That’s the plan.

I wouldn't dawdle too long. It's likely to sell out.

We are heading to Asheville this afternoon. In order to minimize driver fatigue, we are stopping in Staunton, Va this evening. We found a well-reviewed place to stay that does not break the bank.

The long term weather forecast for next week looks kinda wet, but I am hoping to get some good rides in this weekend/next week between the showers.

Knickers, quality socks, vest, arm warmers and gloves over cycling gloves. Definitely ear covers and likely a light neck one too.

I basically have half of my wardrobe packed.

Its going to be cold in the hills and on the descents and my jacket will be just right at the start but too much as the day goes on.

Id also considered double thermal and jersey.

It's a really pretty region that we pass through all of the time, to and from the in-laws, but we've never lingered longer than a pitstop. I've wondered what it'd be like to visit - I could see it being charming and I could see it... well, rubbing me the wrong way. You'll have to report back.

I get packing half of everything. I'm surprised so much of my crap actually makes it back home. Just right is too warm, in my opinion. Starting out cold, almost uncomfortable, knowing it'll warm up some, is my goal. Exertion is a fine warmer.

I’m hoping it’s just a touch warmer at the start, then I wouldn’t be concerned. I have a feeling that the climbing is going to warm me up pretty quickly. There’s about 131 feet per mile of climbing in total.

I was watching a YouTube video about reasons to move/not move to NC. The presenter (a black guy from NYC who relocated to the area 20 years ago, and clearly likes it) said that folks in NC love their Bible, their Beer, their Bourbon, and their Guns.

I hope they love (or at least don't hate) road cyclists.

Report to follow.

Have fun! It's a beautiful area.

Most people are OK; there are some a-holes. Probably not unlike much of the country.

If you start hearing banjos, kick it into high gear.

Checking USPS tracking, it's gonna be like Christmas today. All the bits except the RD should arrive today. So, this morning and Sunday, I'm gonna ride the s**t out of the Litespeed with the current groupset.

NC was my plan until I had grand children.

Do you have an assault on (nearby) Mt. Mitchell planned?

ls01 04-29-22 10:01 AM

Ok. Looking for advice. Woke this morning and got in the shower. The instant the water hit me, a muscle in my right neck/ shoulder spasmed,, and wont release. Hurts all the way into my shoulder from the middle of neck and down to my shoulder blade. I can move my head but it's painful. Looking up is bad.

Heating pad and gentle stretching. Hope it heals up asap.

I'd go there in a heartbeat, but wife (and I) want to stay close to the kids and hopefully grandkids one day.
