Kept man status is something I’ll never know. 😔

Our daughter’s fiancé just took a new job in Austin. She’s pissed that he’ll now be making more than her.

I’d gladly let my wife make more than me, but she’s perfectly happy not working.

My planned 40 turned into 32 because of this nonsense

That’s 2 links on this chain in the past month

Me neither.

I talked to a friend who has been a mentor since law school. He’s now 77, and still practicing! My target is 67, but that might be a dream.

That you have to squeeze the chain stays together to thread the axle in. I’d make the shop show me on another Madone that it’s the same way or expect a warranty.

I might just do that. If I couldn’t get it back in today we were going to have problems. I shouldn’t have to bring my bike to the shop to get the back wheel on.

I felt like that for most of my 50 years of working. It made me depressed and stressed out. When I finally figured out I could survive on Social Security I was relieved. Still scared because I wasn't sure but I had to get out of there. I hated it so much I was willing to retire at 62 and do without health insurance but things happened to keep me on the job until 65.
You're still young enough to make plans for retirement, provided the world doesn't end before that.

Interesting that she wants to make more than him.

And I don't actually plan on kept man status, but if I lost my job tomorrow I'd shrug and work on getting my lifeguard certification. Then maybe see about finding some other remote work.

Though they did - today - send an email that throughout April they'll be sending emails recalling everyone, vaxed or not, to the office. How this interacts with the closure of our Austin office and my grandfathered status into full-time WFH remains to be seen.

I saw that on a Specialized mountain bike. I thought the threads were stripped in the dropout but it needed to be squeezed together.

She’s our super competitive one. Purely an ego thing.

Downsize.

Back from my LesterOfPuppets birthday ride. I rode half his age, maybe.

Finally a warmish day that wasn't crazy windy. A few more rides like that and I'll be a quasi-serious cyclist again.

Oh! I was on the last lap of my office park stretch and low and behold another cyclist pops onto the scene! It's happening. :bday:

(Let the record show that Velo Vol was the office park trailblazer.)

Got a birthday morning hike in, dunno if I'll go for my age in miles, kilometres sounds like a nicer ride length.

The list price was $750k. Prices have gone up since. That doesn’t make sense to me. Plus, don’t need to downsize, really like our place, and I’m not really ready to quit. I am moving to a 4 day week as much as I can.

Oh I know. If you wanted to get rid of the house you'd have to move someplace cheaper. I didn't mean that, I meant downsizing financially and it was a tongue in cheek suggestion at that. You've certainly forgotten more about money and money management than I'll ever know.:)

Lol, I’m not so sure about that!

Last kid is off the payroll in January, and wedding will be over. Those are our two biggest expense items right now. After that who knows.

I’d be bored not working now, but I am enjoying three day weekends.

I probably mentioned my Dad retired at about 74, then within a year or so the company begged him to come back and run a line nobody else could figure out. Finally retired for good and all at 78, then lived another 22 years.

My older brothers both retired at 70, and my oldest sister is on the verge of retiring at 74. The other two sisters didn't so much retire as stop working. One because her husband, working for the DoD, was stationed in other countries, and the other because she could.

YMMV

This is a Samsung s10 plus. Was $1k 2 years ago when it came out. This is my laptop/entertainment system. It came in real handy when I was out in a truck all day. It's a necessity I guess I'm trying to say.

My buddy Scott has the D/a 8 billionty, 11 speed with the hidden cables. He rides a lot. Last yeabillionth, shifter ate the cable in Kentucky on our annual trip. Bike was only a year old.
