Come back some time when you can't stay so long can stay longer. I think I have a bike or two that might fit. I could introduce you to my favorite routes, and who knows? We might even encounter Larry Sellerz in the wild.

Like he'd let that stop him!

Mind you, one broken spoke generally leads to a cascade of them, so he's probably in for an exciting couple of weeks.

That would be awesome, will let you know when I have a longer one. I want to see the Larry action in person.

I have no shame and can admit they definitely didn't get the brains and studious traits from me.

Our kids did the same. G&T programs early on. Daughter graduated #7 out of 250+ in her high school class and son graduated #15 in his similar size class. Both auto admitted to U. Texas and Texas A&M, But, neither school offers academic scholarships to kids from financially secure families that don't fit into a disadvantaged demographic. No big deal though - we managed fine.

Oldest is a CPA and the other is getting his masters in structural engineering in December.

That would make an impression when I pulled it out of my shirt in my client's office.

It's a cycling reference. BITD when cresting a hill, the racers would grab a newspaper and put under jersey as a poor-man's gilet.

The bums in NYC used that technique BITD too.

I didn't need to impress. Just didn't need to come across as a Larry. 😜

Where can you buy a newspaper these days?

I haven't had a newspaper delivered to my house in many years.

Me neither.

Mostly. I leapfrogged a rider day before yesterday, and we had tacos before I went to my luxurious motel and he to his campsite. Then I caught up to him yesterday and since we were both camping at the same place last night we rode together to the campsite. He bailed out this morning though, so I rode solo from Ralston to St. John, WA.

Junk mail advertising inserts work just as well.

At the top of Mt. Hamilton is a little post office. People pick up their mail there and toss the inserts in the trash bin. Inserts are just the right size to cover your chest for the first 2000í descent. That first descent can be very chilly.

Some still do. Saw a race recently where fans were passing out newspapers and several riders grabbing them. I thought at the time that it would be hard to get rid of them with "no littering" rules heavily enforced by the UCI.

I think there have been several occasions on Tour de France telecasts I have watched where the papers have been handed to riders as they have reached the top of climbs in the Alps... or maybe also the mountains over in Spain.

The latest storm track has it turning north and passing over western Cuba. Whew! 24 hours ago I was pondering removing the solar panels from the roof.

Kudos. A rare 3/6 for me too. Ditto for mrs datlas but she is way better than me at the game.

Mojo31 09-23-22 07:35 AM

Fiver for me. :(

Mojo31 09-23-22 07:36 AM

Back in a normal climate. No newspapers or junk mail required.

abshipp 09-23-22 08:42 AM

Well that kicked my butt yesterday.

Got rained on really hard about 15 miles in and didnít dry off until I stopped for a beer at mile 40. Then it was 3k of rollers for the next 25 miles.

The last climb was absolutely brutal, about a mile and a half of nothing less than 10% with a lot of 15%-20% switchbacks. I think I had to stop 4 or 5 times to keep my legs from cramping. Maybe tomorrow Iíll do a morning ride and try and get revenge.

Pretty, though!

Three. I need these to pull the needle back to an average of 4 after a couple 5's, 6's, and a complete failure.
