Supposedly it's fixin' to rain later. So my ride was very windy, but the worst of it wasn't that it was windy. It was that the wind was unpredictable. It would switch from a headwind to a tailwind within 50 straight, unsheltered yards, and it would switch, seemingly at random, from relatively calm to a 'blow your wheels out from under you' crosswind. Since I couldn't predict it, I couldn't prepare for it, only react to it. So I ended up doing a lot of reacting.

I took a road I'd always wondered about - a 'no outlet' road that turns off of Sand Hill in Portola Valley. Goes about half a mile, dead ends at a gate marked "Private Property". I've ridden past it for 25 years, and wondered. Now I know.

Pffft - it was rigged from the start. Of those frequently on the podium this (non-winter) time of year, I think that I'm the only one in the West. Maybe Bah Humbug , too, but I think that he's already shut it down (relatively speaking) for the season.

No racing for me this season. I've raced that course several times in various weather conditions, including those like we've had this weekend. It's a fun course, regardless of the weather.
