Any love for Schwinn DSB?
 

I know it's a box store special but it's one of the projects I picked up. Is the Schwinn DSB Hybrid shunned or is it an accepted entry-level hybrid?

So far I've replaced the broken/missing parts. Replaced the pedals, added a new seat post, installed a saddle, and removed the rear pie plate.

It rides and stops decent enough.

I'm sure it'll be a good rider. It won't be as nice as bikes from mainline brands from several perspectives. The frame will generally be heavier and probably not as compliant. The wheels are probably very heavy and, also, probably not as compliant (tires, too). It has Tourney on the rear (and probably on the front, too), which is generally not as nice as what you'd find on an entry level dual sport bike (though the big brands have used some pretty low-end parts at times!). If it's a 3x7 drivetrain, the rear wheel almost certainly has a freewheel hub with a 7-speed freewheel (vs. a freehub and cassette), which makes future upgrades more difficult, generally requiring a new wheel to upgrade to a freehub.

All that said, it should be reliable transportation once you have it tuned up and sorted out!

Pretty much anything Schwinn these days is well off the quality spectrum. Schwinn has not been Schwinn for quite a long time and in the few times they have done some quality stuff in more recent years it was not them doing it but other companies like Yeti or ControlTech or something like that. They do occasionally do some signature series stuff that is closer to par with say the bottom end of bike store brands but most of their stuff has gone long down the toilet sadly. Once a great American brand, no longer.

Pretty much anytime you see tourney from the factory it is a good sign that there is little to no quality attached to that bike. Feel free to ride it and do what you will with it but I would just pass on something like that.

I ended up flipping the bike and using that money to buy my elevated stay bike.

I recently picked up one of these bikes in a trade. It seems to be a pretty decent bike amd will fit my needs for now. I have already upgraded the saddle, and threw some inexpensive lock on grips in it. Future upgrades planned are some wider riser handle bars, and a shorter stem. It was pretty rough when I got it, but I have gone through it adjusting, and repacking all the bearings. It has taken me back to my younger days when I would put together a Franken bike using curb lawn parts to build a poor kids BMX bike.
