Niiiice.

Free Huffy...:twitchy:
From what I can see. Tires, tubes, cables, and bar wrap are going to cost more than it's worth :speedy:

nlerner 03-14-23 09:23 PM

You pretty much paid what it’s worth.

I would have given him the bike and $20.

Sorry, just couldn't resist. Getting free stuff is always nice!

Here's a practical example of bikeforums digital media where the common man's art contribution (a photograph titled, "I got this for free.") greatly exceeds the value of the actual, physical object.

Oh, so it’s an NFT, and the OP is trying to boost its value. Clever!

@AdventureManCO

Hey, Dave! Looks as though this member can use some spare parts; can you hook a brother up?

Somewhere there’s a guy high-fiving his wife that he was able to give away their daughter’s pink bike and not have to pay for a special bulk pickup with the trash company.

Tires, cables/ferrules, bar tape and elbow grease and she's good to go.
OK, add zip ties for the cable housings.

I've got to think that a lot of C&V'rs have some used stock of all the materials needed here, save perhaps for a decent pair of 27" tires.
I do suspect that this bike would benefit further from a wider pair of aluminum 25.4mm clamp handlebars.

It appears to already have the crucial saddle upgrade, and doesn't look physically abused.
I'll admit that the brakes aren't the best, though they appear to be alloy.
At least the freewheel is probably much nicer than those used on today's department-store bikes(?).

So if the slack and short-reaching geometry in what looks like a 56cm frame size fits the bill, and if dry-weather riding is planned, this could be a good low-theft-risk bike for urban utilitarian transport.
And priceless if a girlfriend appreciates your efforts.
.

Don’t pay any attention to these chumps OP. They’re just cranky because their fancy I-talian shoes are too tight.

RB1-luvr 03-15-23 10:58 AM

Campy parts would look swell on that.

jetboy 03-15-23 11:09 AM

yeah, make the brakes work, tape the bars with whatever tape you have laying around and ride it! id not bother with the gears- its a single speed about town bike.

And a set of shifters…

There are bikes, and there are toys. Nothing wrong with either.

More modern toys, when they break, cannot be repaired, and are thrown away.

squirtdad 03-15-23 01:15 PM

why do I feel that a pic of the OP on this bike is required ?

You know what would be easiest?

There's a brand new pair of specialized 27's in the garage. I bet I'm not the only one.

Nice bike. Throw an upright bar on there (my favorite is the Velo-Orange Tourist Bar) and a rear rack, and you have a great grocery getter/kid hauler/town commuter for less than the cost of a new bike.

ClydeClydeson 03-15-23 02:18 PM

If you've got cables and shifters and tires and bar tape laying around then you did well. If you have to buy all those items... well... you get what you pay for.

chain_whipped 03-15-23 03:53 PM

Sticker it NASCAR style with Colnago all over it and post it on Pinkbike.
PS. Air up the rear tire before you show it off. You don't want to insult those select Colnago A type.
