Definitely nice up there. Also around Paso Robles. I went to the Great Western Bicycle Rally a couple times and the roads in those hills were great for riding.

I'd live right here. Farther North, or West, it gets too cold in the summer Farther South, or East, and it gets too hot.

But I'd like a bigger house.

What a lot of people who have never lived here don't understand is the nature of microclimates in the Bay Area. San Francisco is essentially a square, 7 miles on a side, but often there's a temperature difference of 10 degrees or more from one neighborhood to another. From San Francisco down to where I live in San Mateo, the difference can easily be 20 degrees. It's the same going from Half Moon Bay, on the Pacific side of the Peninsula, to San Mateo on the Bay side. Go another 20 miles South to Mountain View, and it might be 10 degrees warmer.
