What are the differences?

Mainly stiffness, which is contradictory because the Propel is notorious for being a harsh ride. The Propel is from the era of “aero” bike designs of the last decade. It’s a noodle when standing whereas my Colnago acts like it is meant to be thrashed. Big difference in the ride feel.

'No, no, no, no, no!!!! I said to make it LATERALLY stiff and VERTICALLY compliant!!"

Build, yes. I remember all the back-and-forth about external routing and all. R8000 is really nice.

Looks like daughter and her fiance went to COTA for bike night.

$10 says she doesn't make it up the hill on that Spesh.

Looks like it has the gearing for just about any hill. What are we looking at, 28x28 low?

The gigantic seat ain't helping any though :)

Mojo31 03-15-22 07:00 PM

Have no idea of the gearing. That’s an old bike my wife bought 20+ years ago. Thing weighs about 35 pounds.

My daughter hasn’t ridden since she was a child so I’m surprised she went out there. Still, she rode almost 12 miles, and made it about 3/4 up “the hill” on her first lap. Then, she took the bypass the remainder of her laps.

For reference, “the hill” is 133’ and the grade is 13.5 degrees.

Mojo31 03-15-22 07:14 PM

28 x 34 low gear.

I wonder if the burly bald guy with a beard made it up...

All sorts of stuff. Sounds like they may have been getting ready to entertain. Chips, Brie, sliced lunch meat, guacamole, sparkling cider, etc. And you might not believe it, but expensive Irish butter that I have seen in a case. IIRC, it’s about twice as expensive as the Whole Foods brand. There was also some chocolate, which I don’t even eat. Celery as well. And avocados.

The fact that my three items are first on the receipt indicates that the person after me got the benefit of my credit card. I’ll bet the cashier didn’t close out my transaction. They have a lot of dim kids working there these days. Very few long-time employees like there were before Amazon took over. You used to see many people there for years. Now I see new faces every time I go.

Holy cow! I'm gonna have to make sure I get my receipt before leaving the register every time there!

And would the folks behind you have been aware of this, or did they likely pay too?

I used to have that same bike, but it said Trek on it. I could nearly climb vertical walls on that thing.

"The hill" is frustrating because it's steep enough to stop you but also short enough that it's not really good for climb training. Works as a VO2max interval mostly.

Now the guys who get up it on fixies... that's impressive.
