How often do you all find yourselves needing to pump/refill your tires?
Hey there!
So I was just posting this mainly out of curiosity and building a bit of a consensus. I have just recently purchased a Worksman PAV 3 stretch trike and I've been really loving it so far. I've been getting about 5-10 miles per riding day currently and only working up to try and do more! Currently I have one 20x2.125 for the front and two 24x2.125 tires for the rear. The backs need a slight refilling after 3 days or so but the front usually needs it every other day or so. I'm presently 6'5 at 414 pounds and I have the electric kit installed on it. Gonna keep monitoring everything and be certain if there isnt anything else i can do (Aside from losing weight) to really make the tires go the distance. But enough about me. How often do you all find yourselves needing to refill your tires back to safe riding conditions? |
5 different bikes, from 25mm road to 2.4" mt. tires, I check and typically add air every ride,

About once a week on any of my bikes. I check it every ride.

check w/ floor pump every ride, most bikes are tubeless

I check and put in a few pounds before every ride. The higher the pressure the quicker it will lose a little.
|
Depends on the bike. My carbon road bike, I check before every ride (a day or two between rides) and usually need to add a few pounds. The bike I ride off road (I don't say gravel or mountain bike because these rides are back roads and two tracks) have heavy duty tubes and go several rides without needing air.

Check them before every ride.

There used to be a time I just checked and topped them off about every third day. Not any more. Do note that my Pre-Flight Check List is getting longer and longer... |
I give my tires a squeeze with my carefully calibrated fingers before each ride. If it feels too smushy I'll add air. That ends up happening every second or third ride.
|
Top off road bike weekly. Usually needs about 10 lbs. Sometimes I get lazy and go two weeks.
Low tire pressure heavy errand bike, only every couple months. That's how long it takes to go from pumped to the top of the recommended range ~60lbs to the bottom ~30 lbs. |
Depends, commuting, weekly usually. Otherwise, every ride I check the tires.
|
With my new tubeless setup I have to add air every other ride.

I check and top them off weekly. Daily I just give them a pinch to make sure they still feel solid and somewhat near the correct pressure. It ain't rocket science.;)
|
When I was at my heaviest, I would usually check them and have to add air before every ride. Alway seemed to be down a couple of pounds after every ride.

I generally air them up no less than once a week. If I'm going on a long ride I'll make sure they're topped up before heading out.
Seems like your tire needing air every other day or so might indicated a leak, but you didn't say how far down it goes. If it loses a few pounds, that's not unusual but if it's like half flat or something I'd check it out. |
I am running tube tires. I check every second or third riding day, or if I haven't ridden in more than 4 days or so.
|
I pump up the tires before each ride. I don't like pinch flats.
|
One of the harder to accept habits about bicycling is the use of a tire pump almost every ride to top off your tires. I have worn out several floor pumps over the decades and expect to wear out a couple more, the universe willing.
