A friend back where I grew up posted a list of flooding related road closures there. Just a couple weeks back, while he was showing off his orchards, we were talking about how little rain they'd had for the last month.

I should ask him how this will affect his apple crop, which was looking pretty good then. I know that if there's a lot of rain close to cherry harvest it's bad, because they swell up and split, but apples aren't cherries.

I wouldn't say that. I draw the line somewhere just like everyone else. I've had some wonderful rides when it's 30 but I've had miserable times in wind and sleet. And when my feet get cold I'm not having fun anymore.

I understand that we are all different and our tolerance for extremes of weather will vary.

In Wyoming I'd definitely go MTBing if it was 25° or less. Any higher and I'd worry about slush and mud on the trails - that **** really slows you down.

I'm the same way about feet. There was only one ride where my boots with 400 weight Thinsulate were barely cutting it - about 25 below.

I love the layers, wear what you need to feel comfortable. I have this big arctic-style down parka that I just love to wear out in the middle of a blizzard, along with my warmest boots, some gaiters, ski cap, hoodie and gloves, and holler "Bring it, winter"! Impervious.

Apparently Annapolis, MD caught a good one.

We're getting flash flood warnings.

There is one on the ground across the river in NJ about a 12 mile drive from me.

Oh yeah. Being warm in the cold is deliciously hubristic

That said, I'm really looking forward to not having another Illinois winter ahead of me in a few months :)

I know flood prone areas very flooded. We got 6 inches in 2 hours (TWSS), luckily our house is on a bit of a rise so we are fine.

After a day packed with productivity, it's finally time to eat.

Mojo31 09-01-21 06:37 PM

Same. Red snapper on the grill is about ready.

If your intent is to assemble the Fredliest contraption possible, kudos on a job well done.
