So I was sick all last week, but felt better today. Once I ended my work day, I thought I would go mow my yard, but I did not feel like dealing with the 85 deg temps today, so I said, I will ride my trainer. I was not sure how I would feel, so I picked a short 10 mile flat to slight downhill route... figured piece of cake.... 2.5 miles in, called it a day, legs had zero power and no desire to push the pedals. Now I feel like taking a nap.

I guess my body has not caught all the up to my brain yet.

keep hydrated. seems like my body doesnt like to maintain hydration. I can moderate three gallons in a day, but my time spent racing to the urge to release increases x7.

Yea after about 3 days of nothing but sleep, I think I slept 22 hrs one day, I was massively dehydrated and I too drink 2 to 3 gallons of water and crystal light green tree a day. Once I started getting my liquid back in, what I had left in my system started to exit. It's been a weird experience for me, very uncommon illness experience. I lost about 10 lbs, so I figure that might be playing a large part of the lack of power and and effort. I can generally suffer on the bike as I ride through strong headwinds like an idiot all the time, but I just flat gave up quickly. I am hoping I will be good by Saturday, I really want to take a ride outside, but I just noticed that the weather is now calling for rain with this front pulling through tonight, so the trainer might be better to test the recovery.

Yesterday 2/11 was the anniversary of the formation of the first Bicycling Club in the US. I rode 30 miles in celebration, it was nice in Omaha and I saw a lot of bicyclists out and about.

past couple of weeks have been rough. felt like a bag of bricks were thrown at me initially. Hammered thru that... Lately, feels like a Mack truck has been blasting thru me. Sitting the next few days out.

Whatcha got? Not that I want it. Sorry you are out of it.

Rode 12 miles today on my MTB in Levis (not recommended) trying to track down a couple I met while walking the dog - but no such luck.

Nice weather this weekend. I ran and then walked the dogs yesterday. Today I threw the touring bars back on the old MTB and took it out for 23 miles on the trail. Windy all the way out and lots of soft muddy stuff on the trail so it was a workout. Very fun! 😊

57 miles, 4,500 feet. perfect day for it.

diphthong 02-14-23 03:10 AM

34-spot. windy and coolish. did treat (or trick?) myself with a medium round table pepperoni and sausage pizza at mile 25.
snarfed 7 of 8 slices and galumphed back home.

andcarrotrope 02-18-23 06:15 PM

8 miles on the trainer. Im going to do my first outdoor ride of the year tomorrow, yeah!

jaxgtr 02-18-23 10:19 PM

After 2.5 weeks of illness and the body recovering, I did some inside stuff during my recovery, but finally felt good enough where I decided I wanted to try and outside ride. Wouldn't you know it, the temps drops 35 deg and the wind came up to stupid 20+ from the NE. Did not care. Had to put on my leg warmers and long sleeves and went out for 25 miles for my first outside ride since Jan 28th. It was miserable, but it was not on a trainer.

Troul 02-19-23 03:06 AM

77 miles ID on my own equipment. Felt strong after weeks of being off the mark.

jaxgtr 02-19-23 05:31 PM

Did 74 today, the temps were awesome at 75 , wind basically nothing at 5 or 6. Such a different compared to yesterday

Today rode a total of 30 miles, 4 different bikes. I have been making some pretty major changes in my bike set ups, mostly due to chronic spinal issues that have become much more prevalent. I am doing away with traditional and compact drop bars, going to Ritchey Beacon handlebars and VO Porteur bar, 2 of each. I am about 100 miles short of 1000 ytd.

Hope you get your back issues figured out.

Thanks, jaxgtr. I have been dealing with spinal issues for 30+years, including 4 surgeries. I have known for a long time that it is quite likely my spine issues would get to where they are now. They are not going away, but I can make changes to, hopefuly, minimize the impact on my quality of life. As long as I can still ride in comfort, I am ok with the changes. If/when it gets to the point that I cannot ride, that will be a tough one to accept.

BBB_Adrift 02-20-23 08:30 AM

I'm putting in 20-25k after work each afternoon this month. Just to kill a bit of time, to maintain fitness, to accumulate distance: and because it gets me out of the house.

My brother cracked his spine when he was in the Army. I believe it was the 5, 6,7, but I could be off a few. He has a heck of a time doing stuff, but is still upright and mobile. He does a lot of yoga and as it happens, the PT he was using to when was in the active duty lives 3 doors down from him now, so every so often, she comes over to work on the area around the upper back and lower neck. Said it has made a word of difference for his specific injury. He believes the doctor that did the initial surgery screwed him up. He has had several follow surgeries that have tried to repair the initial damage and they sort of mention but don't outright blame the original surgeon. He would not let the Army touch him after that.

Might have to get a smart bike type of thing, I have a Stages Bike SB20 that I use with Rouvy for my indoor riding and it is super easy to adjust and being able to connect to the apps, does not make it stupid boring.

last minute 33 miles OD as the temps steadily dropped & the wind kicked up in the face. Later, after the ride, the temps popped back up above freezing.... Story of my life.

Popped up above freezing? It was in the upper 80's here today... Had to turn the AC on.

it was not too bad at first [maybe 35F?] , but shortly in to it, the temp readout displayed 22F. what drew my attention to check was the wind slicing into the eyes... causing some crispy cold blinks. Got back to the AO & temps were fluctuating 32F & 33F.
