Does anyone know the model # or year of the Sturmey Archer 3 speed shifter. Been searching for awhile and cant find any info on it?
It is for sale on Ebuy but nothing for info. I really like it and would like to know more.
Thank you
Brian

The lever arm looks similar to the "short console" 3 spd "stick" shifter (70B); may be a 70 series model (type C?). Sorry, I have no example to show for comparison.

It's pretty clean looking so flip it without putting money into it if you can. Those twist grips can be fussy.

At $25.00 you should be able to sell for $100-$150.00.

I already listed it assuming it would take months to sell and I'd ride it a bit in the meantime. Put it on Craigslist, Offerup, Nextdoor and Facebook for $100. Got a couple of inquiries but nobody's followed through. Hopefully next spring it'll move...

The twist grip is indeed fussy and the shift cable broke, so I'm shopping around for a replacement. If I could even make $10 or $20 on it I'll be happy.

I'm starting to suspect that somebody just rolled it out and found a pretty girl to pose for the picture. No...I'm being too cynical. I'm sure she was out riding with her other pretty friends when she got those flats and one of them snapped the photo. Probably meant for the I hate flats thread.

Yes, I've heard that back in the olden days, companies would pose pretty women with their products
in order to generate sales.....
An interesting concept.

Regarding the top picture: Not only are the tires flat, but where does it shift? Admittedly, my memory is faded, but aren't those rear stays rather bent?

Alloyboy 11-14-19 03:56 PM

Nice hat.

Don't be afraid to put a standard SA trigger on it. They're plentiful and reliable and should be dirt cheap.

That's not a bad idea.

Just acquired an English 3-speed a few weeks ago, a 1964 Hercules, built I believe by Raleigh. I do like the way it rides but it's entirely too small for me and I was hoping to sell it for a profit.

I love the chrome fenders on the old Hercules bikes, mine is from 1963 and the chrome is still spectacular!

You can't beat that old British chrome.

As a 88 year seniour.Thank you gster for putting a little colour in my cheeks giggle.

WOW! Put a pretty girl on a bike to increase sales, irregardless of two flat tires. Whoda thunk?

1936 CCM Flyte. Canadians like bikes and curves.

BigChief 11-15-19 02:47 PM

I never realized so many pretty girls liked Raleigh Choppers. I always thought they were over stylized and too juvenile. Perhaps I was over thinking the issue.

1956 Raleigh Sports and goodies

Picked this up after meeting BF member @WGB this morning. Had some good bike talk despite the bitter cold winds. I'm going to take my time with this one. Can't wait to see it go in the spring alongside my Superbe. Cool Raleigh memorabilia included thanks to WGB.
