Whatever you use steel for.

Carbon is an amazing element because it forms an incredible variety of bonds to an incredible variety of other elements. Even within knife steel, for example, there are hundreds of varieties of alloys with different compositions and heat treatment. In bike tubing, Reynolds has series from... probably very low through 531, 853, and 953. Columbus has Spirit, XCr, and others I can't remember off the top of my head. Then there's Tange, True Temper used to before they went to focus on golf shafts, and on and on. Most of the good framebuilders state what tubing they use. For the ones they don't, why not? I can't imagine it's because they're shy about using high-quality tubing.

The group that organized it left due to a dispute with the paper over the coverage of a racial incident then announced they would put on a competing ride. Ritchey has had Logic Tubing for a Looong time, which is kinda like not having the tubing identified. Originally I think it was made by Tange. Probably Tange MTB with shorter butts, or something like that.

The difference there is, there is a long track record of people speaking very highly of his bikes. And unfortunately, his paint jobs are usually total disqualifiers, like the Aspero's.

Now 3T will sell the Exploro in ready-to-paint, which would be an option if I wanted to go carbon on this hypothetical for next year. And it's more Cervelo than the Aspero.

Columbus SL for the win. I like the Tanges too. Only have experience with Tange 1 and Tange Prestige.

Cleaned up the brakes, sanded the pads with some 220 then cleaned them some more. I managed to get them aligned so there's no rubbing! Happy days! Since its apart I decided to break in the slow cooker and meth up some chain lube. Wax, paraffin oil and Teflon in this batch. No carrier. Chain was a little dirty but was still quiet, and functioned properly. More buildup on the derailleur than I liked though. That's from the squirt bottle application.

When I was just marathoning and work was easy and there wasn't a global pandemic, I did a deep dive on knife steels. Also, Wikipedia has a great series of articles that will give you the history of steel production and quality through history.

Spoiler alert: in war, the side that can make more steel usually wins.

I believe that steel was developed by (vomit) Gillette, for razors. It's not commonly used for knives, but is used for certain moderately-high-end applications like nicer steak knives and paring knives, for which R2 or similar would be overkill. Like these:

Chain is cooling. I don't know how much the Teflon is going to add to the mix. It doesn't stay suspended very long, so I wonder how much will penetrate into the plates and rollers. But I guess it can't hurt things either.

Looks like they are sourcing everything from Paragon Design Works. Anyway, I'm not digging their frame design. The rear brake mount situation and the sliding dropouts are harshing the mellow.
