We have dog threads, sewing machine thread, how about a watch thread.

Here is my 1932 Hamilton pocket watch. Made a cool stand for it today. My wife gave it to me as a wedding present.

With my favorite mug.

I used an old spoke and a gorgeous piece of Cambodian hardwood.

I love that stand! I don't have anything extra special, but I do love analog, and an Apple watch will never touch this wrist.

My daily watch is a Timex from their Target collaboration, a good and rugged piece. I started years ago with a Bulova, then my dad gifted me another Bulova after I finished grad school. The latest is a lovely Shinola my wife got me last year. The last one I keep around is a "Patek Philippe," a $10 fake I got on Canal St when visiting NYC 20 years ago. The self winding mechanism is still going strong. Nothing pic-worthy in my collection, but I do like this thread already.

Somehow I don’t think this is what you had in mind (from last year’s birthday ride):

Watches, you say? How about something from the 18th Century?

I give to you the Schwinn Varsity of automatic watches, the early 70s Times Self-Wind.

I have two family heirloom watches:

1) The gold Vacheron & Constantin pocket watch presented to my great-grandfather on July 4, 1922 by the Clinchfield Coal Company, following the first aid training course he had provided. (He was a mining safety engineer, which included teaching how to prevent cave-ins and fires, and how to render aid if something did go wrong.)

2) My late fathers 1980s(?) Citizen EcoDrive wristwatch. Not in the same league as the V&C, but it's cool that it is solar-powered.

A Swiss Army, an Accutron, an Elgin pocket watch and this 1930's Buren. Strangely, a Swiss trained watch maker and goldsmith moved to our very small town last year and he replaced the balance wheel for me in return for a half dozen boules of my home made bread.

Swatches...I have a little over 100 of them. I haven't really added to my collection in the past year or so.

I'm confused, does this mean there's a vintage dog thread somewhere? Are the dogs vintage?

Some of the dogs were vintage, all were classic. ;)

I've almost dipped my toe into the Swatch waters before, been looking even more seriously since they rolled out Sistem 51 but I am a little afraid that I will end up with 100 of 'em like you! haha. Fun thread and germain to my interests. Will post my watch "collection" soon.

The 1958 or 1959 Hamilton Thor that was my Dad's until he gave it too me a couple of years ago. Works great and I do wear it.

Hamilton pocket watch that my grandmother gave to my grandfather for an anniversary gift in the 30's I believe, its engraved but in the safe so I don't remember what it says. It works...

I think we are on topic for classic bicycles if someone out there has a Mondia watch. It seems the Swiss bike company actually made some great watches too.

I had the "Coat of Arms" when it came out in the 80's. Loved that Swatch.

While Hamiltons were not the most expensive watches but in my eyes, they were always ahead of their "TIME" (pun intended) ....especially during the 50's and 60's, the asymmetrical are my favorites.
Here a few of my watches.

I also like the jump timer "Golf Ball" by Elgin. It's funny how many of us enjoy collecting similar things....cameras, hi-fi's, sewing machines, and so on, however, my favorite is the fountain pen.
Best, Ben :thumb:

Fountain pens? Don't get me started. I am writing with my Visconti right now with Noodler's X-Feather. There is also a Pelikan inbound. Try to decipher that one you non "fountain pen guys" Haha!
