naw, you did that upgrade for your axle. I just don’t remember exactly what you did.

Do you have the RAT, QR-type TAs on your Cervelo? Yeah, I wasn't a fan of those.

LesterOfPuppets 04-22-22 08:09 AM

PAOTD, paint booth edition.

Oh, Robert Axle Project. Really, though, that just an extension of #1 - RAP specifies 12nm torque, which gives you a foundation for #2 and #3.

Its all tight. This has always been a problem with this bike since day one. I just didn’t sprint in the past or get out of the saddle much at all, so it didn’t bother me. Now that my riding has changed it’s more of an issue. It doesn’t rub at all in the saddle, the instant I am out of the saddle it starts rubbing as I sway the bike. Rubs on both sides. Almost like the fork is flexing too much.

I know that it's usually a good idea to avoid the comments sections of posts involving cyclists, but I often peek anyway. I only looked through the first 20 or so comments, but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised, almost shocked, to see universal condemnation of this asshat. That never happens outside of cycling-specific outlets.

I was pleased to see that as well. I was also pleased with Jalopnik’s reporting of it and it’s condemnation of the guy, especially considering it’s an automobile enthusiast’s oriented site.

I still get that a little bit, at times, too. Sometimes it can just be a little bit of debris clinging to a pad - riding on a moist day or dewy morning can be enough. But I'd still check the other things, too - it doesn't take much to induce rub when you're pedaling in anger.

They'd be hard to mistake; they come out with a quarter turn. If you have to unscrew them, they're normal TAs.

Nearly 3 hours without a post. We're not gonna make ten pages a day like this!

I think I feel a nap coming on. I hope to get on the bike later on. A cool 91A for the high today. It's become my sweet spot. 91/92A. Unthinkable in my former life.

Yeah, I get that when out of the saddle. It's annoying. Generally I only get it when pushing down on the left pedal while the bike is leaning to the right, though if I'm REALLY honking on it I can get it on both sides. Annoying, and of course I can't tell how much the rubbing is slowing me down. BTW, I have standard, 12mm screw-in TAs, and I get rub anyway.

Has that happened since my dating life stabilized?

I don't think that a little pad kissin' on discs amounts to anything significant, certainly orders of magnitude less than rim brakes with their soft pad compounds. Give a wheel a spin when it's in the stand and lightly depress the brake until you get a similar zinging - it'll keep spinning for a long time.

The other day, I heard what sounded like pads rubbing on the Canyon as I was pedaling along, seated. I stopped at the first stop sign, gave the front and rear brake levers an almighty squeeze, and it went away. My guess is that one of the 4 pistons (2F, 2R) was sticking a little in the caliper, but I really don't know. I generally don't get any rub, having carefully centered the discs using the business care method - my company provides high quality, thick business cards!

Series X is updating. Remember when you could buy a console, pop in a game, and get to it? I do.

Offline gaming ... Those were the days.

All of us pinball poolsharks, we just can't compete....

edit: I don't think I have seen or heard above since the 1980's, not sure why I keep the memory alive.

I'll only buy/play single player, offline games. I really don't need/want to cultivate another social circle based on gaming - it can be enough of a time vamp as it is.

Solitaire FTW. Played on airplanes everywhere.

I have to do that with my car on the 27th. Hopefully I don’t brick the thing.
