Help!! Round DT shifter bosses....I hate the French, ugh
 

Well, crap. Everything I had read on the 80's Peugeot Tourmalet said it was all standard vs the french standard we all love to hate.

Sourced a beautiful Suntour Superbe setup to replace the clunky, imprecise Sachs Huret stuff. Pulled off the shifters and found round DT bosses instead of the standard flat sided ones.

Anyone got a solution? What's weird is the rear side shifter is actually working fine but the front isn't.

I've done some googling but found no real answers.. This is my 4th French bike and everytime I say "NEVER AGAIN". One of these days I need to listen to myself.

Seems like I have a few Shimano DT shifters that fit this including a set of early Dura Ace shifters I didn't know I had. They were in the wrong bin.

But it's riding season and I really don't want to waste time trying to sort out something like this. So I've been going over all the Sach Huret parts to optimize them as best I can and am just going to cable it back up like it was.

I'll worry about this on this winter.

Also if you change the screws and add a washer Suntour power shifter stuff will work on these posts.

Threading on these seem standard. I tried 3 different sets of DT shifters and no issue screwing them on.

That said. I just spent a couple of hours just going over the parts that came on it. Basically cleaned everything really well, got rid of some corrosion on some parts, polished up all the metal parts to include pretty much every piece of the shifters, lubed what I thought needed to be, and reinstalled them. I also went over both derailleur thoroughly. Lots of deep cleaning, and then relubing. Finally new shift cables and better ferrules on the RD cable housing. New KMC chain and dialed things in.

Felt a lot better on the stand and took it out for a short test ride. Yep, A LOT better even with the original parts. Shift action is now very light and smooth. Throws are still annoying long for the FD but I can live with that. I realized while working on it that I had a 9 speed cassette on that wheel not an 8 like I thought. So I used a 9 speed chain and the drivetrain in a lot quieter now and less trimming on the rear because of noise like the first ride. Time to just enjoy this ride.

FWIW the round bosses are a JAPANESE SHIMANO product . :rolleyes:
Not just Peugeot got suckered into using them .
I have a Koga Miyata with those bosses for example.
There have been several threads on these over the years .

I think the Superbe shifters would have worked on yours.

I wonder how many "standards" there are?

No matter what, I'm still gonna hate on french bikes, it's a requirement, LOL!

Yes some shimano 600 and Altus fit mine .

According to the 1984 Peugeot equipment catalogue I have , there were only two standards at that time .
Note the thread pitch difference .
Catalogue predates Peugeot using the shimano bosses by a few years (maybe 86 or 87? )

According to the catalogue you could use a pair of the fancy Simplex retrofriction levers (bottom left) !!
