Masi Gran Criterium @84
hello. My father-in-law just retired from riding and passed down his Masi Gran Criterium. Unfortunately it's way too tall for me and I cannot ride it. From the Serial Number it looks like it's an 84. As you can see, he upgraded a few components over time. Just trying to get an idea of what it might be worth. Thanks for looking.

Sell the frame and fork with headset as a set, then part the rest out.
good performance there but too owner specific. frameset? $300- $500, depending. The rest? 280-400. as a whole bike? Under $700. much easier to sell as parts vs complete tall guys are cheap. |

I'm not saying it isn't true, but I still resent it. |
Inexpensive…..but not cheap!:D

Do you have the original components? There's some value in them also. There will be some interest from potential buyers to restore the bike to original condition.

those guide line prices reflect current market conditions more than anything else. It's a nice bike from the late stage of Masi production.

For reference, this black bike is first quarter on 1984, #4 of the quarter.
most likely by Joe Starck this has the revised lug set and fork crown designed with Ted Kirkbride’s input to Henry James. these bikes had revised geometry from the earlier, not huge, but noticeable. I have not tracked all sizes but clearances were tightened up, a bit steeper, shorter in the rear triangle. I think the steering is more like a Gios than a “classic” Gran Criterium. |

I'm not saying it isn't true, but I still resent it. Strange -- I sort of "represent" that! Being tall and cheap has ironically led to me possessing a bike cave full of nice bikes that would likely have not been affordable to me if I were "vertically challenged"! :thumb: |
What are the dimensions on this one? The taller cheapskates want to know.

63 cm as Masi measured, to the tip top. Top tube? Need to inquire. The sizes during this era were more consistent as the investment cast lugs provided an easy stop filing point.

Hey,
What dimensions do you need? I'm not the most "well-versed" in cyclist speak - fairly new to the game. Happy to measure out all you want to know. |
Original owner was in Jacksonville, Florida. Name painted on the top tube.

Unfortunately I don't have the original components. I just have what currently on the frame.
