I have usually been buying Camelbak Podium bottles, any reason to look elsewhere?

I really like the Specialized Purist bottles.

My car battery was dead this morning and I couldn't get the Mrs' car in front to jump it so I took the battery out of her car to jump it. By the time I did all that it was too late to make the ride start so I drove ahead to meet them along the way. I did the 28 mile climb with them once they showed up and when they decided to take a different route back I went the original route by myself. Lots of headwind and climbing.

I felt like being alone anyway and I kept thinking about Pcad and how that has happened to friends before, as well as other members of my club. I didn't come to any conclusions and I feel strange posting this here, but who else can I talk about it with? I didn't mention it to the people on the ride today even though I thought about it.

Not trying to bring anyone down and I figured you guys would understand.

Has Velo Vol been back?

I feel that a lot.

We're looking to buy in February.

I used my bell multiple times today.

No, unless you want to spring for the Podium Chill.

I understand and have also been pondering. No conclusions but generally I think we all accept that cycling has some risk, and we choose to be careful and minimize the risk but we canít eliminate it. The alternative is to stop riding or only ride the trainer.

Gracias. Interestingly itís now tough to find them on sale (which is a change from a couple years ago). Since even ScamBay selling at MSRP I suppose I will support the LBS and buy in person.

I love silent hubs. I'm hoping that the ones I have coming are as quiet as I want them to be.

My MTB is quite loud but I don't mind too much, I'd like to think that it helps with avoiding an unpleasant hiker interaction.

Kudos!

IMO ideal bike ride is about 4-5 hours. More than 5ish and something starts to feel no bueno.

I'm starting to wonder if I really like doing long rides.

But I'm sure that once the acute pain goes away I'll forget about much it those kind of rides can hurt.

3) Yes.

I hated all of the road crossings.

I think I've been looking for the right saddle ever since I started riding.

Anybody know where I could pick up some tips on pacing for longer rides? :innocent:

I usually cruise around 150bpm for any longish ride. For the first hour or two today I really tried to keep things around 130 and it really felt painfully slow.

It was muggy as hell today though, so once the mercury rose there was no way to keep it as low as I wanted.

That’s how I see it too except I think the portion of risk we, as experienced and competent cyclists, can mitigate is tiny. Getting hit and runned and left for dead shook me up for a while, but I knew I wouldn’t quit. It’s just too much freaking fun.

What we can do is mitigate the risk to others. Insurance is important, especially long term care insurance, and everyone should have a very clear understanding with their loved ones. My wife is down with me riding on the roads and racing on the ocean because that’s the kind of guy she wanted to spend her life with.

Velo Vol has been noticeably gone
And I'm right there with you on the pondering part

Where is @Heathpack?

sorry to hear that amigo. We think weíre gunna start trying to buy one in the spring. Currently the houses are only lasting about 10 days on the market, and we need a little more funds to be competitive. Also, losing a house that we really want would destroy the wife.

The good ones are going in a day or two here, thereís no inventory around and weíre very specific about wanting to stay in the neighborhood weíre renting in which makes it harder.

We could still get it, but after what weíve already been through with the search Iím not super positive on the prospect.

Thereís one, but then uttering it would turn this into P&R. Some years ago REI stopped carrying the brand.

amazon had (perhaps still has) quite a good deal on 24 oz Polar insulated bottles, but being vertically challenged, I opted for 20 oz ones.

He's the first cyclist killed out on the road that wasn't a complete stranger to me. It sits a little differently.

I can't say that, unfortunately. He was a stranger on the other side of the country but we had some little chats on FB and every time some politician did something crazy I would run to the computer to see what Pcad said about it, or forward the story to him and watch for his reaction. This was more important to me during isolation.

Understand totally. My first thought was to come back to BF so I could be around people who knew him the same way I did.

Knowing about how his life had changed quite a bit recently, has just made it hit even harder for me. He was cut short just as he was finding a stride. When I first saw the news, my heart couldnít have fallen further than it did. I could only say no over and over.

We used to also chat a lot about things that now just seems futile... like the election, his stock investments, etc. Itís weird to know that now heís just suddenly gone and none of that will matter for him anymore.

This blows.

same.
I had been relegated to the roads instead of the Silver Comet trail from early March until early June and it wasn't pleasant. I am going to avoid the roads as much as possible for the forseeable future.
