It would only solve it in Addiction. It would still be an issue in other active threads.

The end is nigh for 2021.4 anyway.

True. It really does feel like the apocalypse.

You have to watch the Redux version of the film to see the scenes that were not included in the original release. Brando showed up to filming late, overweight and drunk. That's why you pretty much only see him in shadow in the original release.

Only ever a problem in Addiction, so I doubt it.

In a couple of days we'll fix that and you shouldn't see that problem again until, oh, next year.

I don't think so. It's possible but conventional wisdom says no and a brief literature search does not show anything obvious.

I usually abstain and schedule my test for early morning, I can usually make it to the test center without incident. Usually. :notamused:

Looks like we're going to have 7 riders again for today. It's the 65th birthday of one of the women so she can pick the route if she wants. It's going to be 40 degrees at the start but the sun is out and winds are calm. :bday:

Going to give the frame a gentle brush with a green pad before building?

Last week I ordered a full set of decals from Litespeed, so the plan is to give the bike a good wash, and follow that with acetone to remove the current decals, and then I give it the RED Scotchbrite treatment. The green, I hear, is too harsh.

Then another acetone wipe and apply the decals. And then, I hear, you want to give it good wipe down with WD40.

THEN rebuild.

I'm not a doctor, BUT I looked into this very question and actually did an experiment. I had a blood glucose level of 105 after black coffee, and I wondered if maybe the coffee was to blame. So I had another test with NO coffee. Same value.

(My doc had my A1C tested, and it was 4.9, so no prediabetes. In fact, my blood glucose has been 104-105 since 2016 at least, but my A1C is still at or about 5.0, so no worries)

WhyFi I had a small cut yesterday that wouldn't seal. I was only a mile from the start and it got me home, finishing with ~20 PSI. I had a hard time finding the cut because it was right at the edge of the sidewall. I only found it by adding sealant and re-inflating. I didn't try to plug it due to the location of the cut.

So, I have spares and the tire has 2250 miles so I was just going to replace it but it still looks decent so I booted it and stuck a tube in. I just hate to replace tires in the middle of the winter because they'll tend to chewed up before the real riding season in a few months. I'm going to take a chance on the boot.

I did a quick assessment of the frame and fork after taking all the bits off. The frame is great. Solid, not even much wear. A couple areas, like cable contact points, are polished to shiny (finish is satin). The Time carbon fork has a couple small chips to the clearcoat, and some paint rubs. Steel steerer - heavy, but solid. So, I'm satisfied that what I paid for the bike was justifiable.

Now, the bits:
Cockpit: Bontrager bars - too narrow for me. Bontrager quill-to-threadless stem - Yuck. 1996 Chorus headset - beautiful, but I need to check the bearings and races, maybe source new bearings (caged, thank goodness!). Brifters are 1996 Chorus 8sp, with worn out hoods, but functional.

Brakes: 1996 Chorus dual pivots in good shape.

Drivetrain: Campy Racing T crankset with cracked NDS crank - toast (I happen to have a 175mm Racing T crankset in great shape). Athena BB in great shape (glass-smooth rotation). Racing T FD and Chorus short cage RD in good shape. Pedals: none.

Wheels: Bontrager front, RX100/Mavic rear. Shimano 8 sp cassette (gotta wonder how it shifted!) - no use to me.

Saddle: None. Seatpost: Bontrager - worn.

So, I spent a while last night thinking about builds.

I gotta get some red pads then.

Acetone? If they’re regular vinyl, won’t they come off with heat and a fingernail or a plastic scraper?

genejockey 12-28-21 12:13 PM

I have all the bits right now to build the bike up with the Racing T crankset, plus Sachs New Success Ergos and long-cage RD, so I can use some of the many Shimano wheels I have, as well as one of the spare 8sp Dura Ace 12-25 cassettes I also have. I have a nice, light Centaur seatpost I got for the Battaglin before I realized it took a 27.4, not a 27.2. I have 4 quill stems in 130, 120, and 110. I have 3 pair of Cinelli Nerve bars. I have a brand new Turbo 1980 saddle I can use. I have a full set of Campy cable housings, and inner cables as well.

This is not the ultimate Ultimate build, but it will allow me to use the bike while I accumulate the bit for that. But first, I have to decide what that will be - Shimano or Campy? Period or Modern? I could do a full 7410 Dura Ace build with a BB, crank, and FD, and then rebuild the old wheelset from the Ritchey. OR rebuild the wheelset, use it on the Ritchey and give the Litespeed the new Fulcrums as part of a more modern build.

Litespeed decals are not regular vinyl.

On the other side of the driveway at the top of the ivied acclivity we built Mount Leaf (elevation five feet) which is awaiting the city leaf sucking truck.

Thanks to the gusty winds the last few days, leaves have blown back on my masterpiece. :crash:

I’m considering suing the studio that made “Zoolander” for using my likeness. BTW…My aunt ( back row, right) was related to the musical Carpenters. Karen Bivins née Carpenter.
