I won't even watch America's Funniest Home Videos because who I don't care to see guys get hit in the nuts. I also don't watch mtb videos of "fails."

I found out today that my club is scheduling one of my all time favorite rides this coming Saturday. It's a remote start about 50 miles from here, and has close to 8000 feet of climbing in 86 miles, but it's harder than it sounds because of some 15% grades early, some long false flats in the middle, and soul crushing climbs in the last part.

No one has committed yet, but I won't be able to stay with the riders who do these things anymore. At least I don't think I can. I have done the ride solo when I lived up there. I've also done it when supported by other clubs. There is a c-store about the 40 mile mark but no water or anything after that. I guess I have to make a decision.

Here are a couple pics from years past. First is me at the top of a 23 mile descent.

Some of the homies from bitd.

Different year, getting ready to go back up to 6000 feet.

I dunno. That already sounds pretty bad.

I golfed a lot after I retired but I gave it up because all I did was daydream about bike riding while waiting for my turn to take a shot.

Well, it would be pretty hard but the way the climbs are just kicks my butt on this loop. There is 2500 feet in the first 12 miles. That'll take the snap out of the legs. Then miles of false flats where it looks like you reached a summit but once beyond it starts all over. Then the last section is the toughest. Fun times!

Our club did it with support back in the late 80s for a number of years. The L.A. Wheelmen supported it until the Forest Service started asking for fees, the same time they killed off a lot of other events like the ones in Death Valley. Another organization ran events up there for years and I think still does. Pricey events.

The L.A. Wheelmen had the best support and it was $20 the last time they did it. They even had a car circulating with ice water and snacks.

Actually the Blueprint kinda reminds me of what I remember Michelob tasting like.

I misunderstood and thought it was their first race too, but they have been hitting every race in Va and MD this season. They placed about 5 spots ahead of me. I follow one on strava and he has been putting me to shame. If he comes to the Hampton Crit, I doubt I would be able to keep up with his warm up let alone racing.

Ride your own race, dont worry about what they do. You can only effect what you do anyways.

Indeed. In fact it's time to mow right now. Physically, I'm pretty good, but there's a chilly quasi-winter breeze. Gonna have to HTFU once again.

Mowing is not a winter activity.
