finally got to ride the new bike tonight. Handles really well, and is super smooth. It accelerates really really fast, where I can actually feel myself cranking forward if that makes any sense. The only think I am noticing is when I am at my top flat land speed, I feel a lot of resistance in my legs, and it feels like it is coming from the back wheel. I don’t have my bike computer on it yet so I am not sure what my cadence was, but if I had to guess I would say low 90s, and if I shifted to a higher gear, my cadence would increase, but the resistance was still there. I only rode 12 miles and my average speed was only 18.5 but I felt like I was working really really hard. I was kind of expecting my average speed was going to be above 20 for how hard I was working.
No break rub on the rear wheel at all. Front wheel has a very very slight rub. If I spin the wheel, the wheel doesn’t slow down, but you can hear it gently touch.
Only other thing is the front derailer needs to be adjusted. Chain rubs on the two smallest cogs when using both chain rings.

Super stoked, can’t wait to ride it more.

Some useful information there. Did you know that fasting cures COVID-19?

I've got no idea what my IQ is, but I'm pretty sure it dropped a few points after reading that thread.

I hope that's true.

Well, since all non-COVID-19 related research, extramural and intramural, has been essentially halted, everyone who can is retooling. I haven’t heard any vaccine news lately, but there has never been a development effort as intense as this and it wouldn’t surprise me if they set a speed record. Let’s hope!

Does not include raspberries.

Don’t worry. There is a tremendous amount of aggregate research on that area because it spans diseases of every organ system, every age group, and every mechanism from genetics to infection to cancer. On top of that, there’s huge Pharma investment because of the success of all those fancy biologics.

People that despise raspberries have no say in that matter.

Lots of money is being made--there's no disputing that. #Racket

This isn't Strava--my opinion counts.

Off to the office this morning to pack boxes for our impending move across the street. We each scheduled a day so that we don’t cross paths.

Because we no longer need the amount of space we have after several people got re-assigned permanently to NJ. We are literally moving across the street.

MoAlpha 04-27-20 05:06 AM

Just to air my hypocrisy, I do wish our very good and cautious gov., Larry Hogan, would lift the ban on recreational boating this week. We’ll carry masks in case we need to aid other mariners or be SAR’d ourselves.

Why did the chicken cross the street?

Because she saw one of her neighbors approaching on the 12’ wide sidewalk.

ericy 04-27-20 06:25 AM

Infection rates in our county are shooting through the roof, and the stories suggest a perfect storm of events that led to this:
  • Start with several chicken-processing plants. These never shut down as they are considered essential. Workers in these plants stand side-by-side as they process chickens.
  • Employees at these plants are poor, and live in much higher density housing. An infected family member can't easily isolate from the rest of their family.
  • Many of the employees speak Spanish as a 1st language, and thus information wasn't reaching them.
  • Some of the employees have immigration issues, and fear deportation.
Zip codes with the highest infection rates have about 2.5% of the population having tested positive - the actual number of infected people is likely to be larger than this.

Seems like a not-good time to move, but wtf do I know?

Nope.

To move up the Strava leaderboard.

Unfortunately he was walking and the activity didn't count.
