It’s a ride to and up Hawk Mountain. I think about 110 miles and lots of climbing. Epic enough.

Dang!

Will you be climbing the eastern or western slope?

Lemme check. Here is the tentative route.

edit: looks like up the West and down the East side

Which bottles did you get? I need to get a couple new ones too, and probably will get the Camelbak Podium 24oz.

No idea. They have something printed on them, but they are entirely generic and standard and the usual 24 oz (?) sort of size. However, they are clear plastic and clean, unlike the ugly, mismatched, white ones they're replacing.

Scarred up yet clean bottle just show that you're a serious cyclist.

How nice that you get to climb over the ridge, descend back down, and then climb back up again :D

Knowing how RWGPS likes to underestimate elevation, that is an epic day indeed.

The old ones aren't clean either, but who cares how they look on the inside.

That won't be much fun in anything under 94º F.

And at least you'll be near Intercourse.

It’s personal, but I like the camelbak valves, compared to the usual bite to drink close on your butt ones.

Me too. They only had one of the model with that sort of valve and they have to match. I have one top like that which I may transfer to one of the new bottles, but it will give me the OCD pruritus.

I don't close the other kind.

Incidentally, I am thinking of starting to carry green tea, which I have been using as a stimulant and euphoriant for the past year. I'd love to start slugging that stuff on the second half of a ride long ride.

That's how I always felt. I lent one to a friend, and when she couldn't get it clean to her specs, she threw it out. I raised such a fuss that she went back and picked it out of the trash can.

Are stores limiting the number of shoppers allowed inside up there?
The line to get into Costco, today at noon, resembled the immigration line at Hartsfield Jackson Airport. And was moving about as fast. I bugged out.

There's no funk like y'own funk.

I am aware of only one type of valve. I don't normally close them either.

She called it mold. I have since been soaking them in cloro solution when they turn black inside. It can't hurt.

Was it IN the trash or ON the trash?

I’d probably die doing that

You are in Saratoga. Ever ride up Whiteface?? It’s a blast. I highly recommend it if you like climbing.

I plan on going sometime soon. The summit is closed but they’re letting people up.

I love climbing, I’m just too fat to be any good at it.

I did it 2 years ago. It’s a consistent climb. Roughly 8% for 8 miles. Find a gear combo you can sustain for 8% without going into the red zone, and you can do it.

CB valves are nifty.

I use bottles with ye olde valves, and just leave them open after I take my first drink. Gotta make the first drink a big one so not too much sloshes out

datlas 07-01-20 02:29 PM

Cool water stop from today.

Hmmmm... If I find a gear combo that I can sustain on 8%, then the challenge becomes keeping the bike upright at such low speeds.

I don’t get into trouble until I hit 15%.
