I've been super busy lately making trips up to Albany to view houses, three trips within the last seven days. The closing on our current house is at the end of August so it's time for us to do some serious house-hunting and serious packing/moving out of here.

At the same time, I checked in on an Albany Toyota dealer and lo and behold he has (almost) in his possession a new blue 4Runner for me. For months I had been looking all over the Hudson Valley to find a blue one and nobody was expecting one any time soon, so I'm thrilled to find this one up here. Now if only the house hunting would be so serendipitous.

The next 4 weeks will only add to the madness as I travel to NYC daily to photograph a basketball tournament I normally shoot every year to help send kids to college.

Let me see, what else can I fit on my plate. :rolleyes: That's usually exhausting, so I doubt you will be seeing much of me for awhile.

I did cat sitting duty last weekend for a woman who has checked in on my boy.

This is Sadie. She’s 12 and deaf, but a sweetheart. She’s also loud when she wants food.

Those were some awful days, BUT they kept a lot of people employed.
The IBM Electric was the typewriter of choice in the 70s. I typed up many a term paper on those in the last-minute wee hours of the morning with one of those.

I started out on punchcards taking undergrad statistics classes, that's where I honed my first love of computers. But what a pain in the ASS if you made the slightest error in your submittal.

Same with me.

My lab had a PDP-8, then a PDP 8e (see photo), then a PDP-11 by the time I left. Absolutely riveting experience at the time when you consider the only contact most mortals had with a computer was through punchcards and a mainframe. The PDP machines brought a powerful computing device right into your own work environment. Much of my non-mainframe programming background was with these DEC machines, it was so much fun to occasionally program little routines to do fun, stupid stuff.

I went to a clinic in a hole-in-the-wall town 20 km away, rather than subject myself to the insanity of the city. She was instantly suspicious because I was from a different town, but wrote me down anyway. They are not permitted to open the ten pack of vials until they have ten arms ready. I was number three. She expects to call me tomorrow.
Fun stuff

We had yet another fantastic midweek ride today. We had 11 riders and everyone pretty much behaved.

New jersey arrived a few minutes ago. My first full zip. Dayglow green. A little clingy around the middle but that's how they cut them these days. I was anxious for this one to arrive, to see if I want to order another of the same brand. I think I do.
The one I sent back last week was like tissue paper, and had a backward zipper.

I think it was named back in 1664.

I remember reading a decade or more ago that they were the fastest growing snack food in terms of sales in the U.S. because due to immigration.

I remember hanging out in the Computer Lab with the Not-Yet-Mrs. GeneJockey, doing punchcards. Type up the stack, give them to the guys to run - "Fatal Error on Card 3. Did Not Compile"

So she'd fix that, and give the cards to the guy..."Fatal Error on Card 5. Did Not Compile"

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Howard could call a fight. Olympics or professional, he was entertaining. I think he quit when Larry Holmes beat on Tex Cobb and they wouldn't stop it.

I read his book "I Never Played the Game". It was interesting.
