I have a Univega Viva touring frame getting ready for paint. I'll post pictures when its complete. I'm really looking forward to rebuilding it and riding a weekend tour to two this summer.

Awesome, Dan. That bike is in the right place. Those concave Weinmanns really set the bike up well.
Has John seen those pics?

Yum! The Honjo hammered fenders, the chrome Nitto racks -- that bike is a class act in the true randonneur tradition!

Thank you sir. :) John has seen them and I believe he is looking forward to seeing it in person this spring or summer on another vintage bike ride. Hope you can join us. If not, maybe we can come to you. :)

Thank you very much. I really like this bike. It's my favorite and I'm very pleased with the way it turned out.

I've posted pics of these before in other threads. but since they're all touring bikes I'll take the opportunity to show them off again.

^^ Lovely bikes. I like the stem on your wife's 610 with the cable pass through. Genius! :)

kipibenkipod 01-10-09 01:44 PM

What a lovely bikes.
Sure a great collection ;)

viscount 01-10-09 03:17 PM

Noah Scape very nice Mercian and Claud Butler:thumb:
I nearly said 'not enough English Bikes on this thread' but those two are equal to several of the other kinds!
Nevertheless I have a similar couple to add.

Definitely vintage.

The 520 is done! Red Tressostar pre shellac, Erilium 2 red striped skinwalls, and new red cables. I threw a Turbo on, since the suede San Marco it came with was too shiny for words. I also put the
original Biopace big ring, which came in a box of parts with the bike. I guess I will just have to keep an eye out for a 600 long cage. The Deore indexed handles the upgraded 6 speed freewheel just fine. A nice bonus is the aftermarket Sunshine sealed cartridge hubs with Mavic Open 4 rims. They came from Performance way back in the 80's, pre internet. I haven't hit the road on it yet, but I can only imagine it's going to be fun.,,,,BD

1984 Miyata six ten I saved from the dump and sold (too small for me too big for the wife)
http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...1&d=1228079759

I took the money from selling the Miyata and bought a 1995 Cannondale T700 that somehow got the cranks that were spec for a 1994 T1000. I need to get a current picture. It how has a Brooks Champion Flyer and a different stem. In the picture is all the tires that came on it new. Replaced them as they were just a wee bit dry rotted.

Picture the wife shot after I got back from a Sunday ride a couple weeks ago below.

Tell me about that seat stay seat tube bag. I'm looking for something to put a headlight battery in to free up the bottle cage it lives in now.

80 someting Lotus Eclair Touring version set up right now to do commuting duty. it's 65cm (huge!). It's got old Deore components with a newer ultegra triple, bar ends, 32c panaracers, original blackburn racks. It just needs me to find some time to install the fenders and it's ready for a long tour.

This was a $5 Garage sale buy, and after a lot of elbow grease and some new bars, bar wrap, and a B17 I think it's one of the best looking bikes I've seen. I'm proud to display it here with so many classic touring bikes. I'm still looking to buy racks (probably Surly Nice front & rear) when I can afford them.

Heck of a find, that one.

awc380 03-19-09 08:54 AM

A while ago someone had a thread with a really nice old French (I think) touring bike - I think it was a 650b for some reason....anyone remember the thread?

I couldn't find it...

I had been watching this one for a year or two on Craigslist. No one ever bit, and I recently saw one and how they were equipped. on a thread here. Once I started cleaning on it, I began to realize how nice these bikes actually were. It's got a Crane GS RD, Dura Ace brakes and cranks. It also has a locking headset, and a plated spindle BB. Very little wear in the bearings so far, but WOW is the grease gummed up and stiff. I should be replacing this pic with a finished one tomorrow if all goes well.,,,,BD

Is that front wheel a bit egg-shaped or is that just digital camera weirdness?

awc380 03-19-09 08:24 PM

Yeah...the photos make the wheels look all wonky.

Bikedued 03-19-09 08:50 PM

It sat in one place so long the tire was formed into the flat position near where the back of the rim meets the downtube( in the pic ) The rims are shockingly true for their age, in both side to side and roundness. I have a set of tires mounted on them already. Hopefully they will stay true for a while. Most of the components looked horrible, but are cleaning up easily to near new condition. The cranks look like they just came out of the box, hehe.,,,,BD

Here's mine: 1985 Panasonic Touring Deluxe. I this is the first week I've been out on it, and it's a nice ride.
(Sorry for the chaotic background clutter in this photo, but I haven't had a chance to take any outdoor pics yet.)
