1985 schwinn peloton whats it worth..big debate in my head....
So i started out road biking recently, and came across a bike i knew nothing about, turns out to be a 1985 schwinn peloton came with triatholon set-up and some extras, looks all original. I originally thought it was my size, from riding it a short distance, as i had nothing to measure it with. Im about 1/2 an inch from the top tube at my inseam. it turned out to be a 60cm. Ive done some research online and it seems like its a really rare bike. So ultimately what do u think this bike is worth. Im debating weather i should just keep as a cellection, and ride on short distances, or sell it. Any input is apreciated, thanks.

Hm. Looks like a nice schwinn back when Schwinn made bikes comparable to their italian counterparts. Is it fitted with Shimano? Looks like you got hooked up on some hardware. those aero bars are sweet and that computer looks expensive. Also..the seat clamp? Cool bike I say it was meant to be ridden. Enjoy it! I suppose your saying that its the right size for you yhes?

I'll start... maybe about $300? Maybe more? Nice bike.

I am not the Schwinn expert but one of them might drop in. What components does it have? I sold one in OCT '09 and it had the original components as listed in the catalog which were Suntour Superbe Pro.>> http://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1...985Ltwt30.html
Your bike matches the '84 as seen in the downtube decal. http://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1...984Ltwt06.html The fork on your bike does not seem to match the '84 catalog or the '85 Peloton that I had. It's hard to tell for sure from your photo but your fork just looks different on the crwon. The '86 had "Schwinn" on the fork but it was white. The '84 was red but with no letters on the fork. Perhaps it was changed or just came with a different fork. I can't comment on the rarity of the bike but if it's not all original as to the fork or components then it would only be desirable as a rider. The '84 would have a Sugino crank and fewer Superbe bits. http://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1...984Ltwt18.html The one I had was a great bike and I only sold it as it was too small for me. IMHO if you do sell it lose the tri bars and any other misc add ons, what's up with the seat post? Mine had a Superbe post which I REALLY wanted to keep.:bang: The tri bars don't make the bike present any better and would only add value to a buyer that had to have them, (.05%). Where you are located has a major role in how much you could get for it and this time of year it will be less no matter where you live. Also it's a big frame which might be less. Maybe $300 cleaned up and ready to ride, minus the clutter. The one I sold is pictured. The bike you have is my size. http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e3...ean/Side_1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e3...ean/Rear_4.jpg |
In current state: $100, maybe $150? Sorted out, cleaned up, with the tri stuff all removed and replaced with more conventional, original stuff, $300.

+1. Its pretty beat up. |
Check the minimum insertion on your handlebar stem. It looks to be pretty high up.
I would be a little more optimistic than the rest. In the current condition I would ask $150-$175 for it. Tuned up with new rubber, grease and cables you should get $300. |
Oh H*ll, I will take it off your hands.. ;) Just PM me, set up shipment/payment, and off to buy your self somethat will fit.. BTW, I have something I purchased, and it is too small. Might be worth more than your peloton, PM me.
That is, if you still got it and will to trade/get something your size, or just tease the h*ll out of me!! :D |
I agree with removing all the "Tri" stuff and clean up the look of the bike. and yes something needs to be done with the stem. is that early 105? those were nice bikes but that beain a 61(?) may hurt its potential.
