Bike lanes in Toronto
 

If that's a surprise then there's one of two possibilities:
1) That The Sun has not been reporting the new bike lanes in the past two years during the pandemic, ActiveTO and the bike boom;
and
2) Nobody reads the Sun.

I don't know what to make of it either. Though the OP might be thinking they are doing some sort of public service by posting this, all that is really being done is trolling. Especially since the OP didn't care enough to write their own thoughts on the subject that they presented.

I recently rode downtown Toronto. Bike lanes were a nice collection area for all the salt, sand, and other road debris. The segregated ones were narrow and right next to sidewalks where often pedestrians decide to step off without warning, or sometimes they were used as walkways. Needless to say I hated the whole experience of riding downtown. The alternative of riding alongside cars might even be marginally preferable in many cases.

I love riding around downtown. I've noticed that driver behaviour has improved with the bike lanes.

In the past two years, everytime there was an announcement that another bike lane has been installed, I try to go there and check it out.

I'm more interested in reading the comments in the thread given in the Twitter link where I'd found The Sun headline link. There are some who say they love them. I don't live in Toronto but there was a similar bike lane attempt made here. The pathways are an afterthought and more geared towards feeling good by "doing something". It's about optics more than anything.

Why can't bikes go on Duplex Ave, very close and residential. ?

Those drivers are the epitome of ignorance when
1) there's a subway running underneath;
2) Duplex Avenue is a quiet street they drive on;
3) when there's a bike lane to ride on instead of driving in congested traffic.

BTW, did you happen to scroll down to the replies to that tweet that explained that the subway was closed the day that picture was taken and that the reason that block was so jammed up was because they were running a bunch of extra buses that day?

You posted a tweet from a troll who lied about the context of his photo to bump this thread. Nice trolling on your part, let us know when you have an actual point. If they don't enforce by ticketing, there's not much point in designating them, is there? I'm shocked, shocked to find out that cities actually make money off of lawbreakers.
