Cinelli Super Corsa bike Pron. PICS inside.

Hey guys,
I picked this up a couple months ago and I finally got around to doing a video on it. This is a 2006 with a Chorus group from 1996. Plus some Monoplaner brakes. Great looking bike, Its new old stock. The story goes: The dealer, Beverly Bike and Ski in Chicago became a Cinelli dealer. He had a new group of parts in the display that he threw onto this frameset and put it up on the wall. Hung there ever since. Campy rims, Chorus group, Cinelli bar and stem, Rolls saddle and sedis chain.

Let me know what color to do on the Hbars? I dont like the tape!

Pretty bike. Nice pick up.

As for the bar tape, I see two viable alternatives: white or black. White will "pop" more and would look killer, but it gets dirty fast. Black would be more understated, but it won't get cruddy looking anywhere near as fast as white. And black bar tape is never wrong.

jamesdak 11-13-21 03:56 PM

That's a beauty. I'm voting white bar tape....with a white saddle. ;)

That is one beautiful bike. I would go for black or white tape. Also, if you want to prevent the shift cables from messing up the paint under the bottom bracket, you can put a couple pieces of this over the cable where it contacts the bottom bracket: Cable Liner

Rustines make ( made?) Campagnolo Ergo hoods?
this era of Cinelli is kind of a puzzle for me, using the semi vertical, but adjustable to hide misalignment dropouts.

Your comment reminds me of when I first got a 1986 De Rosa, I took it to my go-to shop to check alignment and facing and to chase the threads - you know, make sure everything was ship-shape. When I picked it up, the owner (a high school friend and excellent C&V mechanic, since retired) said "it was pretty straight - for an Italian frame." I thought and still think it was an interesting comment.

Black tape would make the nice details elsewhere pop. Looks like a fun bike.

Planning to ride it or hang it up?

steine13 11-14-21 07:09 AM

If that ghastly tape is on there much longer, this bike will lose Italian ctizenship.

Black.

decades ago there was a bike shop on The Western end of Union Street in SF that had an alignment table out on the sales floor.
obviously they were proud of their capabilities. Then when one thought a second time, why did they need it so much? Dozens of shiny Italian frames hung from the walls.

Another manifica bike. Black tape and maybe swap with seat from 1977 Bianchi build. I love both Rolls saddles. Ride it as is and maybe you will get more bar comments :)

That is a good question. I'll probably ride this one though!

I love your red Supercorsa. I must admit to being very biased towards Cinelli Supercorsa's as they are my ultimate 'grail' bike frame. Red is a bonus being my ultimate Cinelli colour from the 'Antonio Columbo' era.

Doubt it, that's Cinelli Splash Tape!

Another vote for white bar tape.

jjhabbs 11-15-21 10:26 AM

So far it looks like everyone either wants black or white tape.. Huge first world decision. LOL

Should you decide to go with white, consider this:
Fizik Tempo Microtex Classic 2mm Bar Tape
I have it on my Pinarello and it stay really white for a long time. Not sticky.

Then go with black tape, to go with that nice black Rolls saddle. I have one bike with white saddle and bar tape, and that's enough. The rest have black - except the Bianchi, which has celeste, because Bianchi.

This is the tape I put on all my bikes, once I have finalized brake lever location.

Beautiful bike John. That Schwinn dealer is where my father and I bought my first bike, a Junior Stingray in gold. That had to be about 1967. I remember it like it was yesterday, so yesterday I went back there to see what else he had. Only a few older 10 speeds and out of my price range but it's nice to see them still in business all these years later.

Oh, my vote is for black bar tape. When is the next open house so I can come see it in person?

Spaghetti Legs 11-15-21 03:17 PM

Awesome bike and you need to ride it! I generally prefer white bar tape and rarely use black, but I like it also for this build with those wheels. Black also looks good on a red bike. My ‘89 SC has mid 90’s Campy 8 as well. Your shifters look like early 90’s Syncro 2 in which you use different index inserts depending on your mechanicals. Is the shifting good? I’ll attach some pics to maybe help you visualize bar tape choices. I’ll add that the dropout adjusters look out of place, meaning just very large and incongruous. The vertical dropouts with adjusters that I’ve seen have pretty small screws.

Hey Hey. Thanks for your input.
What store are you talking about?
You're more than welcome to come anytime. If you know any other old bike junkies you can invite them with you and we'll have some pizza here at the garage.

I never got around to doing a ride from here because I cant find a good route that people would be willing to travel to do. The trail here is limestone and compact everything.. Its not bad but Id hate to pull people over here and have them disappointed with the surface. WE shall see.

But seriously. I have people here all the time. You're welcome to come. If you have another cool bike to do a video on you can bring it along.

I was talking about the shop in Beverly where you bought the Cinelli. I thought visitors are allowed in only on the coffee and chrome saturdays. Id love to bring over my new 80 chrome Voyageur that only has about 200 miles on it for you to see. I know you like Schwinns.

These garages are privately owned. I can have company whenever I choose. Message me.

Thanks

@jjhabbs - After seeing @Spaghetti Legs Pin, I am leaning toward black even though I opted for white on the De Rosa. It keeps getting blacker now with a black post and stem with a potential change to black bars.
