Which one would you keep?

I'm trying to thin my collection a bit and I'm torn between which of these 2 bikes to keep. I have
a 1987 Ironman Master and a 1986 Panasonic DX 5000. They are both the same size and equipped
with Shimano 600 components. The frames are very close to the same and both are in excellent+
condition. I do like the purple better lol

I say go with the Ironman, though I am partial. I had the same bike (same color too) but it had been outfitted with Dura Ace by previous owner. So my vote is sell the Panasonic so you can get a Dura Ace group for the Ironman!

Or sell the Ironman and get DA for the Panasonic. :fight:

Keep both, find something else to sell.

Keep the panasonic, but put white bar tape on it and swap the brake levers.

SurferRosa 08-09-21 08:40 PM

Neither. I do like both fences, though.

Ironman!

From an aesthetic point of view the lugwork, the fork ends, rear dropouts etc on the Panasonic are a little nicer but...

From a practical point of view, the Ironman is going to have a higher resale value and is more desirable because they are recognized classics.

What price glory?

Panasonics? Feh! They made their reputation selling TVs, boom boxes, and appliances!

Earth Wind & Fire vs. Miami Vice and the Ironman Races!

Just one more thing:

One more suggestion: which bike do you enjoy ridding the most? If neither, get rid of them both! :innocent:

I’d keep the green one, better looking.

Panasonic.

Purple.
Chrome ds stay.
Nicer finished dropouts.

Lazyass 08-10-21 02:33 AM

That's tough but I'd go with the Panasonic myself. You don't see as many of them.

jdawginsc 08-10-21 06:13 AM

Get more storage...

...but the Panasonic is awesome...

nlerner 08-10-21 07:09 AM

Sell them both and get some modern CF rig.

Classtime 08-10-21 07:52 AM

Put them both on CL at reasonable prices + $100. One might sell. The Panasonic will be a better looker when you send it to JB for custom paint but I really really enjoyed my '86 IMs which I believe is the same frame as the '87 Master which had good clearance for 28s if that is important to you.

Hobbiano 08-10-21 08:36 PM

I have two Ironman's so I'd keep the Panasonic. Looks better, too.
