Hey everybody!

I'm a long time lurker and have only posted a few times. This is my current commuter (No thanks to hours of research on this site), but not the one I'll be using for this awesome charity ride:

Anyways, a little about Texas 4000:

Texas 4000 is a group of about ninety University of Texas at Austin undergraduate and graduate students with a passion for finding a cure and spreading hope for a future without cancer. In the summer of 2014, LIVESTRONG Texas 4000 riders will embark on our annual 4,500-mile journey across North America in hopes of inspiring communities across the country to join us in the battle against cancer. Starting in June 2014, we will ride our bikes from the University of Texas at Austin to Anchorage, Alaska. This ride is the longest charity bike ride in the world and will take 70 days to complete. Along our journey, we will stop in communities to present cancer awareness programs in an effort to educate people on cancer prevention and early detection. Our goal is to inspire hope among those personally suffering from the disease by sharing our stories and enthusiasm.

Texas 4000 for Cancer is a non-profit organization dedicated to the fight against cancer. Since its founding in 2004, Texas 4000 has raised more than $3 million, funding cancer research projects at MD Anderson Cancer Center, the UT Biomedical Engineering Department, and survivorship programs at the LIVESTRONG Cancer Navigation Center. We are proud to say that 94% of each dollar donated goes directly toward research for a cure, cancer prevention, and patient support programs, and we are working vigorously to improve that percentage.

Although we are responsible for planning the routes, finding host families, and preparing the cancer programs, none of this could be possible without your help. I asking for financial support. Since Texas 4000 is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization, any donation you choose to make is entirely tax-deductible. Each rider must raise at least $4,500—a dollar per mile ridden. If you would like to donate, visit http://t4k2014.com/donate/trentday

I ride for my deceased Aunt Linda, who passed away in 2004 from ovarian cancer. I ride for Jarrod, my cousin and Linda’s son, who was diagnosed with leukemia at age 7. He was thankfully cured by age 10 through a successful series of chemotherapy treatments. I ride for my girlfriend’s grandmother, who was recently diagnosed. Over the past few months I’ve spent time with my teammates and members of the community, learning their experiences with cancer. Each and every story has only strengthened my compassion and motivation for this cause.

If you have any stories you would like to share, shoot me a message! Thanks, and I'm very grateful for you help.

Sincerely,

A person who loves this site and loves the idea of a cancer free world.
