I’m back and forth on buying this one. Cinelli stem, bars and Mavic rims are not original but a nice upgrade. What would this be valued at cleaned up ready to go? Thanks

Thanks, with shipping I was worried that I was overpaying.

The paint job looks tired and there is considerable rust on the parts. Yes it can be cleaned. That said, I'd value it at maybe $500 as it sits and I'd be hard pressed to pay that much given the rust on the chrome fork and rear socks. That much rust indicates that there are likely issues inside as well.

I hope the chrome cleans up some, but I like the paint. Even at $500 I’m still doing pretty good. I already have all the consumables for it, just going to have a lot of labor.

Who is doing the cleaning up? If it is you, $200

I’d love to find an International with Campy for $200.

i Bought that exact color bike but in my size they are fantastic bikes, i think better riders or at least as good as a professional, as a clean up and flip project id be all over it for $200, the group set alone is worth around that,
i wouldn't be concerned about that surface rust, British chrome from that era cleans up well, these are getting expensive in ride able condition even the frames on the bay go for $500 on up.

if you buying it to ride it you cant go wrong they are great.

I'm partial to these champagne color bikes. They have a certain look when they are a little rough around the edges. They look like.... Victory!

My size, so definitely a keeper, it will fit nice in my collection. I have been getting a lot of 70’s bikes lately.

a bit concerned abut the possible breakthrough rust on the downtube, You know what to do.

I have one of these in OEM time capsule condition. I don't ride it, but it is fun to look at.

I would definitely be interested in that bike "as is" for around $200. But, not so much if the price started to approach $300. After a complete refurbish, it could be worth serious coin. Maybe $700 or $800.

October 25th is my birthday, and that bike would fit me. Hmmmmmm.

I think the numbers you’re getting are good. Been watching this very nice one on CL for quite a while (maybe a BF member?). It’s had a couple of price drops and now sits at $1,000. OP’s can probably clean up just as nice and my guess is $800 is top of market once it’s front line ready.

I looked at one, just beyond my price point and on backorder.
I had been saving for 30+ months, bought something else.

I have used 0000 steel wool on chrome and it works great !!!!

I would get a can of " frame saver" and spray the inside of all the tubes and such.

When spraying, do it outside on a non windy day.

Then flip the bike frame around so the solution runs all around inside.

Bike shops carry this item. Can get on-line I'm sure as well.

my cool Christmas present was 1966, the 1967 model Schwinn Sting-Ray three speed stickshift.
it was the Hit of the apartment building.
every adult wanted to try it.
the apartment manager was Gaga over it.

word spread fast in that 11 unit complex!

Coppertone Gold, black walls and a leopard print banana seat. That was a must as I really did not like the white with metal flake.
I had standards. The Leopard print worked well with the coppertone.

I was fortunate that parents were designers.
we did go shopping as a family so was not a surprise. There was a push to buy a different bike, an American Eagle 5 speed muscle bike or a Raleigh Chopper.
nope. I had been sold on Schwinn quality- those TV commercials.
advised that my Parents had quality bikes, Carlton Catalinas, the 5 speed had exposed gears that could get damaged.
there was a cool plastic cap on the Sturmey hub to protect the shift chain. I asked for that.
I had done my recon.

When you get your hands on it and get it all sorted and cleaned, you will have an amazing bike on your hands. A couple years ago, I built up a '74 International from a bare frame ($50 for the frame, $100 for the fork) and parts on hand. In the end, it became my main road bike. My dilemma will be when I finish my current project - an early '80s Serotta - I'll have to choose between the two. Somehow, I don't think that will be a losing proposition. Your bike is in much better form than what mine was, and the Bill of Sale is an added bonus! Good luck with the project, and definitely keep us posted with your progress!

This is interesting. I am looking at a 1978 Raleigh Pro frame, fork , BB, and headset and am wondering about value. I am actually looking for reasons NOT to buy it but may anyway. I know as a complete bike these top end Raleighs are worth what has been mentioned , $600-$800 with patina and MUCH more in real nice shape, maybe $1200 or so. That one actually should clean up nicely, I wouldn't think it needed painting or anything. In fact some folks prefer an original bike even if the paint isn't perfect. The fact that the original receipt comes with the bike would be a plus. I think a solid weekend of work and some consumables (cables, tires, bar tape, polish and grease) and you would be down the road on a sweet bike.

Use bronze wool when cleaning chrome.
