It's a killer deal.

If accurate and it sounds right, that is the first time I heard why sidewall cuts are an issue. I always wondered how one gets a cut on the side wall unless they run right alongside something. I had my share of flats with cont 4000s, but never on the sides. Probably luck and local roads has a lot to do with it.

It's 4°P here at the moment. It's going to get to a whopping 8°P today. #welcometowinter.

Nice setup it sounds. Wouldn't mind, but as noted not the maintenance. Around here, individuals having hoop houses is extremely rare, nearly nonexistent - not sure why as our growing season doesn't accommodate peppers and melons well without starting indoors.

Yeah, it's over $400 at Jenson on line. My shock is leaking and the drivetrain needs to be freshened up and the rear tire is bald. If I was still working I wouldn't give it a second thought. I just called my LBS and he said he could sell some stuff for me, that might do it.

I was thinking of trying to reseal the shock myself if I can get a seal kit. Thoughts on that?

I had one time that that DEFINITELY happened and resulted in sudden catastrophic tire failure. Fortunately, I was riding with AG and maybe a mile or two from the car so she just fetched me. That’s why I like the bead-to-bead Kevlar tires for my morning training.

I was the only one and I don't really know them, but it was hot and I didn't know if or when there would be water stops and I need a lot of water. One of the guys was chiding me on a climb about having seen me climb better before. I told him the Camelbak was slowing me down.

When I ride with my regular club I never use it because I know there are water stops. With a lot of solo riding this year and water sources turned off and wanting to avoid stores, especially when alone, I started using it on hot rides. With 2 big bottles and a 2 liter Camelbak I can carry about a gallon. I tried an extra bottle in the jersey and 2 bottles in a handlebar bag but the Camelbak seems to work best for me.

For a longer ride in the heat with uncertain water stops, it makes TOTAL sense to have one.

But our rides are set up to have a short water stop every 90-120 minutes, so in this case I don't think the Camlebak is really necessary. Of course it's a free country so the guy can bring whatever he wants.

I'm on track for more than that, but a lot hinges on Sunday. Family stuff means that I can't get in a proper ride on Saturday, so I'll need cooperative weather and familial disposition on Sunday.

Velo Vol , looks like you might be getting a LeMond facility for a neighbor soon:

I didn't know it was in Oak Ridge. Must not be very large.

(I think they're fine, too. We'll see if they spontaneously delaminate out riding)

Preliminary ride on the rear pads showed greatly increased stopping power and no noise :thumb:

Is it possible they wicked up a bunch of oil at some point? I've never seen a bike on fire from a brake issue, but that's 'cause I'm only a teenager.

I didn't know that either. Street view from 2014 has an "Available" sign out front, so Lemond must've moved in after that.

It's tucked in behind the ORNL carbon fibre lab. I like how the LeMond facility has more security than ORNL. Big ol' fence around it and a guard shack at the gate!

Fox Float something but it's low end and doesn't have a canister. I run 260 psi in it and it works pretty well except for lots of pedal strikes. It's a dw-link knockoff.

I was thinking how in winter we have five straight days of clouds (how does water even evaporate when it's 40F?).

But when Velo Vol is mowing in July, the sun goes into cook mode and we don't have a cloud to cover it for hours.

I don't get it.

It's been raining all afternoon. Now, a thunderstorm.

That's not the main ORNL campus, which does have security. I've ridden by there on the highway and didn't notice it. Doesn't sound like if I popped in I could get a scratch and dent special.

If you just need new seals, I'd do it myself for about $20 in parts. If the shock is damaged(dents or scratches) I'd pay Fox to do it.

I'll see if I can get a seal kit, I think the shock is still in good shape. Fox charges $150.

I did my Cane Creek and it was pretty easy. It was leaking down over a couple of hours and my arms were REALLY getting tired pumping up before every ride.

Bah Humbug 07-16-20 06:26 PM

AG will now have a subordinate at work; she starts on the 10th.

Gotta be a weird time to be starting a new job.

the only reason I'd send it to Fox was if it's damaged(needs parts replaced).
