2019 Japan Track Cup available here: JPN Track Cup

This is at the new (second) 250 in Izu. Lots of big names; Theo Bos, Matt Glaetzer, Botticher, Dmitriev, Lee Wai Sze, Stephanie Morton, Simona Krupeckaite, etc. Rare chance to watch the earlier rounds of an international race in full (if you're into that sort of thing).

Oh, and omnium and stuff, too.

I bet it's faster, too.

Here's some info from Drag2Zero on their new aero extensions - currently about the only other options are full custom (speedbar.nl) or the off the shelf ones like Wattshop sell. Nice alternative (cost wise)

Bonus: Apparently it can be adapted to use standard stems (like the TK1 / TKFRD)

Interesting indeed. I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but it seems like PM pedals would be leading assumption as to why.

This begs the question: Does the bike world need another Power Meter?

I really can't see there being much opportunity there. And it's not like people swap PMs a lot. People will go through more frames than PMs over time.

Yeah, there is a lot of money to be made, but the price wars seem to be ending in a race to the bottom to provide the cheapest device that can technically be called a "power meter".

Maybe they simply had cash to burn and didn't want to pay taxes on it?

Morelock 10-03-19 08:00 AM

If you're a speedplay rider already, the thought of a PM pedal compatible is tempting (if it's priced competitively) but overall yes... already tons of options out there, for the most part if you wanted a pedal based PM system, you've already moved from Speedplay... or you have a different type of PM. It's an interesting buy though, Speedplay has always been a unicorn of sorts holding out against much bigger companies trying to buy them.

ABOC site is down/gone = no UpUpUp :(

I was only on there last week, so it's recent

Wow. I wonder what happened.

I recall the preface of the website when it first launched stating something to the effect that the website being a place to keep notes and whatnot for an upcoming Track Sprinting book.

The main URL of the site was: http://upupup.aboc.com.au/the-book

https://i.imgur.com/n2RWiFZ.png

I did think it was weird to give away the "milk" then try to sell the "cow" later, but I didn't question it. I really enjoyed the content.

I hope it's a temporary thing, like the credit card used to pay the domain fees expired and wasn't updated :foo: (this happens more often than you think)

Or, we've managed to outlast Fixed Gear Fever and Up Up Up... :D

Here's a rider who found the Zipp 808/Super9 faster than a Mavic Comete pair:

Yup.

And he has the credentials to back it up:

Regarded as a leading industry authority in aerodynamics and bike positioning, he spends hundreds of hours each year field testing and analyzing the aerodynamic and mechanical properties of body positions and cycling equipment. Due to a running injury, Dean changed his focus from triathlon and started doing hill climbs (even though he is 6’3″) and racing bikes in 2011. In recent years, he started racing on the track as well. He has done quite well racing for Team Fit Werx and holds multiple National and World Championship titles on the track and in TT.

I knew another mechanical engieeer who was a multiple elite National champ and Masters world champ in sprint events...he also rode Zipp wheels :foo:

Baby Puke 10-09-19 02:55 AM

Where can I get the stem? Is it from the same company who makes the Sprint Aero Bars?

New Dura Ace track cranks? Or road cranks set up with custom chainrings?

Morelock 10-21-19 12:36 PM

yeah it's a road crank, you can see the adapter bolts in the action shot. Probably custom rings in the other.

Front wheel and fork looks interesting, new zipp?

Baby Puke 10-23-19 05:19 AM

Looks suspiciously like the old discontinued front Zipp 900...

Morelock 10-23-19 05:26 AM

^ It does look like a 900, but with a different hub design? (Thru axle?)
What's more interesting is the fork. If you look very close it's not the same as the following rider's.

Does this mean we're back to thinking narrow fork to wheel is better than big gap :D It seems to rotate each Olympic cycle
