I suggested this to mrs datlas, but she prefers just to squat and go.

Not that I am aware of, but it certainly can be an irritant.

Ah. We chartered a boat in Belize where the valves were wired to the overboard position. However, we never anchored within sight of another boat.

I have a family story about the first time we chartered a boat and daughter, who was about 12 at the time, decided to poop while we were short-tacking out of a river into 25 kts. We told her to go fix the problem and she found a solution involving a disposable fork she located in the galley. That child was born for the sea.

You throw a provocative statement out there ("this commonly used thing is bad") and don't explain it.

It's an irritant. It doesn't really clean anything well.

A provocateur? Heaven forbid you'd have to deal with one of them.

On our trip, the crew opened the valves when we left the anchorage in the mornings and reached deep water.

That's the kind of daughter you want! One who's not afraid to take action.

Boat people talk about poop a lot. No surprise, considering there's a deck named after it, I suppose.

I loosened the brake QR but problem persisted. A quick look revealed the rear tire was lightly rubbing the left rear chainstay. I repositioned and tightened rear QR more tightly and I believe problem fixed.

This has happened on the Roubaix at times. Is it typical for when rear QR not tight enough??? I am positive the wheel was centered properly at ride start. Vertical dropouts on both bikes, if that matters. Thoughts??

That's because all you land lubbers don't listen to us when we tell you to hit the restroom before getting on our boats. Inevitably, someone needs to take a dump miles away from the dock, and then they think the marine head is the same as the one in their house. The problem is usually someone using a fist full of toilet paper or three.
