Bridge of the day. Fire engines go for it, no promises though.

A thunderstorm is such a lovely thing in open country.
Sigh

I don't know that it's a goal, but it's where we all end up.

Tough day at the proverbial office. I assume I won't get fired, but man does it feel rough.

AG and I just had a nice pre-dinner walk around campus though, in 90*.

A reminder to keep your animals well fed. They should look upon you as a SOURCE OF food, not as food per se.

I saw one of those emergency room shows and a man had a boa constrictor wrapped around his arm with it's teeth sunk into his hand. The man was in danger of losing his hand but the girl who owned the snake was more concerned that they didn't kill the snake, which it almost came to. Someone called a snake expert and was told to pour hot water on the boa, not scalding, just hot. They did it and the snake released the arm.

Sounds like a healthy relationship right there.

Acceptable pets are cats, dogs, and harmless fish or rodents.

fify. and my feline overlord says he's not sure dogs are acceptable either.

Not looking forward to the ride home. the street that i use to get to my street is closed due to flooding. looks like I'm going to become a pedestrian and walk my bike through the floodwaters. There was water pooling on my drive when I left: hopefully the bike garage is ok.

Couple of days in Hatteras with the family. Brought the cervelo, usually I bring the ritchey, but the tire went flat while driving back from charlotte.

Itís been super windy the whole time here. Where I am located I only have two choices for rides. Do I want a tail wind going home or do I want a head wind going home. Today I chose the tail wind going home, Tomorrow is a mystery.

So we time our beach trips based on the tides. Growing up surfing, typically on the ObX you want to be out low tide, with the tide coming in. My wife has been with me forever and she likes it when she can walk really far out in shallow water. Now that my daughter is running around the shallow water that low tide provides makes sense. Low tide was at noon, the wind coming from the south was so strong it really didnít make all that much of a difference. The shore break was so bad, I spent most of the day keeping my daughter right side up. She still doesnít get how dangerous the ocean is.

I wouldn't have not dated a girl with a goldfish or a hamster. I would not have dated a girl with a snake.

I'm not sure what their relationship was but they made her seem like a real butt head.

I doubt they had to do much making.

Funny thing is, nowadays I carry cell phone everywhere, but 20 years ago I rode all over hell without one. And I had a couple incidents where it would have come in really handy, like when my RD cable broke 8 miles from home, and I ended up breaking my chain and remaking the drive train SS, or that time I hit God's Own Pothole on a descent and it left a bulge in the casing, but I had no choice but to ride 4 miles down a technical descent and then 16 miles home, nursing the tire the whole way. But I think what really put me off too much lone adventuring was riding up West Alpine Rd. It's on the West side of the Santa Cruz Mountain ridge, and what I remember most was seeing no more than one or two cars, and maybe one other cyclist during a 4 mile climb. It was a little spooky.

When I first started riding seriously, I would go up Old La Honda and never see a single car. A few days ago, I watched a video of Phil Gaimon trying for a KOM on Old La Honda and it looked like a darn freeway with cars and bikes.

Yeah, it's a lot busier than it used to be. Even people coming down! Who descendes OLH?

****. At least the water is not too deep. Drying and sorting the boxes of spare spokes will be a right PITA

My pilot friend who used to live here and moved back to Menlo Park a few years ago really wants to break the 20 minute mark on the Strava Segment for OLH (bridge to mailboxes). I think he has come close but not quite made it.
