Suntour barcon locknut replacements available

I got asked if I could make these so I made a prototype and the answer is yes.

It's made of brass, and I made this one thick just in case it needed more threads engaged (steel being stronger), but after installing it it seems a lower profile, more matching the original, will work.

Guaranteed not to rust:

$10 for one, $15 for two, posted anywhere in NA.

Let me know if you want thick as shown or thinner...

PM coming. Now if you could also guarantee agaist loss.....

No, I put a spell on them so when they get lost they magically find their way back to the pile of ping****its under the bench, so I can sell them to you again.

Thinner versions:

These look much better, don't think I'll bother with thick ones.

Count me in for a set! Sending a PM.

oneclick 05-31-21 03:09 PM

dweenk, mcgregorj, and PatTheSlat - your locknuts are made and mailed.

nlerner 05-31-21 05:33 PM

Oh, I could use a set of the thin ones. PM incoming.

mkeller234 05-31-21 07:35 PM

PM sent for a set

unworthy1 05-31-21 11:00 PM

I can't believe how a week ago these were: "oh them, forget it, you'll never find one, they unscrew fall off and go missing and NOBODY has replacements!", and here we are: "Two for $15"! :)
I will be sending oneclick a PM for a pair, thanks for doing us SunTour Barcon fans the biggest little favor in decades!

And BTW, your guarantee against future loss is clean threads, then a dab of LocTite Blue

pastorbobnlnh 06-01-21 08:26 AM

What the heck! I believe I'm going to PM for two sets! I have them mounted on at least four bikes, two of which have acorn nuts as replacements!

romperrr 06-01-21 08:38 AM

I know I'm going to need at least one pair, might as well buy two... PM incoming!

Thank you for your service.

WGB 06-01-21 10:56 AM

oneclick Can't recall but we're you also making spacers for chainring bolts?

Guilty.

I might be in for a couple pairs as well - I'll PM. I still owe you a PM for a thumb screw, but it's been a hectic work week.

Better then, combine postage.

nlerner, mkeller234, twolve, unworthy1, SJX426, AJI125, and romperr, yours are made and mailed.

EDIT: just got a message from a fellow in Maryland that the spacer I sent him on the 10th of May arrived 1st June. I could have ridden a bike there faster.

Pm sent for a pair.

Moe Zhoost 06-02-21 04:51 PM

Nice job. My Suntour Barcons are sitting on the shelf at the moment so no danger in any nuts going astray.

A suggestion: consider nickel plating them. This is incredibly easy as a DIY thing. I did some testing on old sewing machine parts lately and the results are remarkable. Check out one of the many You-tube videos.

Broke the drive belt last night on a minilathe; I'll fix that today and should have another batch after the weekend.

Hi,
When you get it back together, I’d like some in brass. As the kids say, they would look “way kool” on my vintage English tourer. PM me payment d.
Cheers,
Van

oneclick 07-07-23 02:19 PM

Bad but temporarily so news; the belt I need is out-of-stock-and-not-for-months.
I've ordered what I hope is a match from another supplier.

nick_a 07-07-23 07:17 PM

This is fabulous and I'd love a pair as well. I've subscribed, so that I might hear when the lathe is back online.

unworthy1 07-07-23 11:20 PM

well this is a bit old, AND embarrassing but way back in June of 2021 we had this via PM:

"Ok, I'll be making some more sets today, looks like. Send me your postal address, I'll mail them to you. Pay when they arrive, in case they don't. I'm in Canada, so it likely won't be quick. What I do with the small bike stuff I do is put it in a letter envelope between sheets of cardboard - saves on postage, and possibly quicker than a parcel."

and I sent you my address but...no locknuts arrived, cause I checked the pair I need nuts for and the nuts are not there.
Plus I would have had follow-up as to how to pay (especially in CND$) and no such follow-up.
So either never shipped or never arrived.

I don't show any payment being made...always possible I just spaced out where I put these but...don't think I got any.
Do you have any record of what happened oneclick ?
