The rub here is that without the ball being deflected out of play, the run would have scored (2 outs, runner at 1B left on the pitch, and was almost to 3B when the ball went out of play).

It was a freak incident, the fielder clearly didn't deflect intentionally, the ball is out of play, why add another rule just to cover a freak incident? It's just simpler to treat it as a ground rule double and be done with it.

I agree with you that the current rules are fine as they are, and both accidental and intentional deflection are clearly covered.

My point is that I understand why some people are grumbling about that play last night, and are crying for a change to the existing rules.

Hardiness Zone 7 riding commencing now. Oh yes.

My antivax niece just posted something stupid again, part of which was "a virus with a 98% survival rate". I always wonder why the folks who push the "98% survival" line never do the math that 2% of 360 Million = 7,200,000 dead. Like wiping one of the big metro areas off the map.

Let's assume your niece has 200 friends on her social media account. Ask her which 4 people on that list she wants dead.

Never got the call to test ride today.

They must be waiting for Velo to wrap the bars.

The "contest" and rules were your idea. you do all the damn work.

One of my remaining lifelong friends has become an anti-vaxxer and a rabid conspiracy theorist. It''s sad, actually. I stopped arguing with him even though I see him from time to time on the bike path.
One of my other friends has been arguing with him on FB. He claims all of the people in "one state" who are hospitalized are vaxxed.

I don''t understand why some people want to believe the conspiracies and reject all other knowledge.

“I just rode,” said Neff after the race. “The legs just showed up to the party. It’s more fun when they do that!”

I guess it sounds better if you hear "98% survive!" rather than "2% die!"

If I had 200 friends I’m sure I could point to 4 of them I can’t stand.

But would you be willing to wish death on them? That's kind of a whole new level of dislike.

If you want my bar wrapping services you're going to have to bring them to unincorporated West Knox County.
