|
yep, this is my first winter with one. so much fun!

Are we talking bikes?

I like fat bikes too.
They have an advantage when you come across sand or mud. A lot of people use them in snow too. I also like them because I am tall and heavy. The fat bike tires result in the handlebars being higher. They are even higher if you have front suspension. Fat tires also spread the weight out more for heavy people, reducing the likelihood of breaking the wheel. For people who only ever ride on good roads, who are not tall or heavy, fat bikes can be fun, but regular bikes can do the job. |

You can do anything with the Fat tire bicycles. Any type of riding is possible. I still say if I only had one bicycle it would be a fat tire bike.
They are the pinnacle of fun as well. Some of yous need to get your mind out of the gutter  |

Redline Grizz
Walmart BSO but It’s an absolute blast and as fun as my more expensive MTB’s. Heavy = yes mechanical discs = yes cheap wheelset = yes but still so much fun |

Not sure. I’d have to measure the hub spacing but the wheels are 26er. Wheels, tires and hydraulic front brake would really put this thing over the top 👍

I got a great deal on a pair of Fuji fatbikes last February, right before the COVID. We have a place at a lake with miles and miles of pure sand beaches and the wife and I have thoroughly enjoyed these bikes. It is really a great way to unwind, pedaling along the beach together and Ive found some fun trails as well.
I really like having it around our home too for exercising my pointing dog. I can creep along through some fairly heavy cover and then kick up the pace along ditchbanks while running her. Next up... snow, and ice fishing too. Ive got a full susp mtn bike that I love to ride and Im an avid gravel biker but you couldn't pry this fatbike away from me. |
Keeping the fat alive here.
A couple of years ago I gave my fat bike to my brother in law because he is fat and he pestered me about getting one of my bikes. It just sat on his deck. He never rode it, even once! Upon a visit, he lives 10 hours drive away, I took it back. Indian giver! I built another bike, a better all-arounder 29'er hardtail, and gave that to him. I'm so glad to have the fat bike back because everytime I get to ride it, it's just a blast. It's great for bike-packing in the backcountry, and that's what my fat bike is dedicated to now. I'm in a phase where I'm working on all the bikes in our family. Can't wait to do some more things to my fat bike. Today I installed a pump on a bottle mount bracket, attached a Salsa Anything cage to the fork, and did some preparation for a drivetrain overhaul. |
I was talked into purchasing Fat bike couple years ago. I enjoy that Kona Wo immensely. Picked it up used from a friend. He had it loaded with Dillinger 5.0 Studded 4” tires. Incredible traction on snow/ice. Now up here in 🇨🇦, riding approx 4x week. The pathways are cleared and we have 30km paved trails. Fun it is. My wife wants one. So maybe pick up another. 😀

I love fat too. It's lovely to ride isn't it!

Perspective is everything, proving that money and quality are not a prerequisite to having a lot of fun. That Wally World bike costs less than my bike saddle. More power to yah.

Went bike packing, or bike camping as I call it, for an overnighter this weekend on the Salsa Mukluk.
All in all we covered 39 miles and 7,000 feet of climbing, and one night. This was the first ride on the Mukluk since I changed the drive train to a 1x9, 32t narrow-wide chainring and cobbled together 24-46 custom cassette, with a 22t chainring extra for a manual low range (no front derailleur). It worked great. I employed the low range on one particularly steep section on the ride to help me spin up the grade. Pretty handy for those times when hauling camping gear. Saw a couple of fat tired eBikes in the parking lot when we got back. eBikes emerging all over the place these days. Was able to clear some clearly challenging and rugged sections of single track on fat tires where others choose to hike a bike. These are among the moments to savor on a fat bike ride. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4b7def89a2.jpg |
