Bike Path Repair Stand !
 

On today's ride I decided to check on the bike repair stands that are on two different bike paths in the area. It seems that they take turns having pump issues and seldom are both active at the same time. The cool thing is I have seen people using them which is great.

Every public work station that I have ever seen has had a broken pump.

the public pumps i pass by at times work as long as all the parts are still there, but usually if that is the case then parts start walking off; leaving a dismantled in-op pump.

The pump don’t work ‘cause the vandals took the handles?

The positive part is they don't stay down for to long, but just amazes me how some people have nothing better to do but ruin a good thing for others.

We have several of those stands which in a perfect world would have all the accessorial tools still attached i.e. allen keys and screwdrivers. But unfortunately they are usually stripped clean. I've never tried the pumps.

We have a fair number of work stations in and around the Twin Cities; the tools are usually there, but the pump is always a crapshoot. It is nice when you have a need and everything is working and accounted for.

I used one once, I just happened to get a flat where there was a repair stand. It made getting the rear wheel off and on to fix the flat easier. And the pump worked.

Your seatpost doesn't fit in space provided? I think I would rather work on a carbon bike upside-down than set it on its top tube like that

There are a couple along the New River Trail in Peoria/Glendale. Almost every time I pass the hose fitting has been cut off and the tools too. :notamused:

Rode the Katy trail in Missouri. Every pump and tool station I encounter was fully functional.

They really maintain that trail system

I haven't encountered very many of the stations, and usually carry most of what I'll need with me.

There is one in Downtown Tigard

I believe I tested the pump and everything seemed to be there and functional.

It was about 1 block from a funky old bike shop, but I can't find the bike shop on the map now.

We have two of those; one in front of city hall, and the other on the trail. Some... person decided they needed the pump heads from both stations. Why? Being funny? Hostile? Was that where the voices were coming from? The city has yet to replace them; either no money, or no parts. Frustrating.

A few of the local Metra stations have these bike repair stands. I've never used one but I did notice the tools tend to get a little rusty. Might be OK in a pinch but if you have tools with you; they're probably better. I've never checked the pump.

More common at Metra stations are abandoned bikes, some of which remain there locked up for many months or even years. Might be good as parts sources if you've broken something. Free tools, free parts, what's not to love?

Where I live there are a few. The other day I passed a guy who was walking with a flat. Said he didn't have a pump. So I showed him the station...broken pump. 😠

Never had the need to us one just put it up for photo opportunity.

But would your seat post fit if you did need it?

I think the pump worked, but that was a couple of years ago. Were both Presta and Schrader there?

Looking at @ZIPP2001's video, I guess the question is how one is supposed to put the bicycle on the stand?

Never used one I just put it up for a photo op, I guess whatever works for the person using it is the correct way. :giver:

Luckily, have never needed to use any of several located alone the local mup. But out of curiosity, after reading this thread, I took a look at a couple on my last ride. They were fully furnished, nothing missing, and the pump worked. Glad to be able to say that, hopefully they will stay that way for those needing them.

I have used them several times riding a new bike and tweaking the seat placement. Its perfect. Ride thirty minutes, come across a repair station, adjust, repeat.
