Formally Rejected

On a pandemic inspired whim, going stir-crazy with all the 2020 events canceled, I made a short video and submitted it to a film festival. Inspiration came while I was on my indoor trainer. I asked friends to record specific shots, downloaded some free video editing software, and stitched the thing together in a total of two weeks. It was a hoot. A highlight was getting permission from the musical group Handmade Moments to use the snippet from Eye in the Sky, which was playing in the background in one of the clips.

The anticipated rejection email finally came. My film budget was the $35 submission fee.

Thank you for submitting your project to the Filmed by Bike Film Festival. Unfortunately, we are not able to include your film in our programming this year.

It's only 2 minutes 47 seconds. I hope you enjoy.

Did they say why it was rejected?
I found it interesting.

Only the quoted text. "Rejected" is my overly dramatic word. It's simply a matter of them choosing the best, from submissions.

I suspect they didn't like the scenery in your garage.

That shot at the end of the empty roads....and in color...poetic capstone to your whole point. Nicely thought out.

Very nice.

Granted I'm an engineer attempting artistic expression, but the point of the movie is we're riding solo in our grungy garages rather than together in the beautiful outdoors.

Thanks! Just after I stopped recording, a bird burst into song right off camera. Would have been perfect.
