I took a rest day yesterday, I was feeling a bit run down after a couple challenging rides and my first weight lifting session in a few weeks. Got some stuff done around the house before I had to go back to work and was ready for some indoor intervals tonight. 9 virtual miles and 3600 fake feet...did 2x15' intervals at 330 watts and then felt fresh enough for another 5 minute effort at the end.

I rode with the bike club last night and we (the moderate pace group) took a new guy under our wings. He plans to join us Wednesday for the slower ride that I'll lead.
  • 27.31 miles
  • 15.6 mph avg.
  • 571' elevation
Had a couple beers afterwards. I bought a variety pack of beer last week and brough the IPAs for others to drink. Someone else brought Oberon Wheat Ale, which I prefer. I brought popcorn with bacon grease in it, which was a hit.

Anyone else notice this thread shows 250 pages, but if you click anything beyond 248, it just reloads pg. 248? Strange. (maybe the thread is maxed out?)

jaxgtr 04-30-24 06:51 PM

Got in 76.6 on Rouvy tonight and 2600 ft of climbing. It was my post work anger management ride :troll:

38-spot yday and 36-spot today. so out of shape but at least riding on days off now whereas wasn't riding at all (8x this year before yday).
hoping to be semi-respectable pack fodder by mid-june.

Sierra_rider 04-30-24 11:30 PM

Busy day, didn't get a virtual ride in until about 9 this evening. Only 1 hour, 8 miles, and 2900 fake feet of zone 2 riding.

Troul 05-01-24 05:46 AM

37 miles. 50ish °F out.

Sierra_rider 05-01-24 11:17 PM

I made it back out to our local XC series this evening. A total of 24 miles and 2200' of elevation, although only 16 miles were race miles(the rest practice/warm up.)

I went out hard at the beginning, in order to make the race selective...my plan worked and only 1 guy could follow. He was willing to work with me and we took turns pulling for the next 4 laps. Finally on the 4th and final lap, I could see he was starting to fatigue, so I attacked with about a mile to go. I managed to open up a gap of over 30 seconds by the finish, for the win.

Average speed, power numbers, and HR were quite high...I'm happy how consistent I was during the race. My fastest and slowest laps only had a spread of about 11 seconds difference, and those were 15ish minute laps.

Another half day at work and 18 warm windy miles, mixing it with gravel and road. Tried new leather Brooks saddle, but found it much more slippery than C17.

Sierra_rider 05-02-24 04:46 PM

Road ride today...51 miles and 5100' of gain.

jaxgtr 05-02-24 07:10 PM

25 miles and 1200 ft of fakeness tonight.

Troul 05-03-24 03:30 AM

the unpredicted monsoon with the booms really ground my gears.... So much that I setup the indoor rider that was being temp. stowed out of the way to clip off at mile 30. Ugh, I thought indoor cycling was over for a few months now that it's May. I could go for tacos & margaritas.

WaveyGravey 05-03-24 01:18 PM

Today I rode 20 miles.

Thigh Master 05-03-24 02:10 PM

42 miles, 2,700’ elevation gain commute to and from work. First real commute on my new “grail bike.”

45 miles and 6300' of elevation...my first "California Alps" ride of the season, ahead of the snow that's supposed to happen tomorrow. The 2 major climbs on this route were 7.5 miles/2600' and 9 miles/3200' respectively. My goal to become better at long climbs has paid off, I PR'ed both climbs today and am now in the top 3% on Strava for both of them(there's about 8k riders on each segment.) The top of the leaderboard is littered with world tour pros, so I'm happy with my results.

What temps are they predicting?

Congrats on the PRs!

The weather forecast for Markleeville(where this particular ride starts) is calling for temps of 54/25 tomorrow and 48/26 on Sunday...big change from the high 60s like it was today. At my house, it's supposed to be 46/30 tomorrow...my weather station is reading 71 as I type this, the seasons can't make up their minds.

Thanks, it's amazing what dropping 20-25lbs and becoming "roadie" lean will do for one's climbing speeds.

That's how it's been in michigan. Bipolar weather seasons.

I bet the loss in lbs is very rewarding for those endurance zones.
hope the weather prediction is off & you don't need the artic gear.

Fantastic scenery... and I love the color of your bike.

jaxgtr 05-03-24 06:46 PM

Did a short 20 miles and 1600 ft of climbing of fakery in the Hollywood Hills on Rouvy.

rsbob 05-03-24 07:44 PM

30 miles with 1,700’. Set a PR on a 3 mile 645’ climb and was the second fastest for age group. Also got a 4th 🏆 over all on a 1.31 mile segment.

Thanks, some of the climbs just west of this one are even more scenic IMO, but they're still closed for snow.

As far as the color, as soon as I saw it, I liked it. I was looking at this particular model last year, but it was purple...I just couldn't pull the trigger on a purple bike.

Took a little more hydration than I usually do in the weather conditions this time of year [50s & cloudy, 14mph headwinds] so instead of lugging it around, I put it to use.
107 miles.

Nice mileage, but I could do without that headwind lol.

Sierra_rider 05-04-24 11:25 AM

Return of the crappy weather today...so I knocked out a quick 26 miles and 1500' in fake Italy.

jaxgtr 05-04-24 03:42 PM

Got in 64 today with 38 miles of 18 mph headwinds, but made for a quicker return, but man did it get hot and humid for the last 45 mins, the clouds went away and the sun started to bake me and the earth pretty good. I unfortunately did not realize that the road I opted to return back on was being torn up, it was not that way 3 weeks ago, so I did about 8 miles on the sidewalk versus the potential of being nailed by a side mirror. I also believe after today's ride, I have confirmed my thoughts to unload some bikes as I have found that the CheckPoint is just fulfilling my road and gravel needs all too well and I just don't need the others. So I am going see about finding new homes for my Domane and Emonda. Might build up a mountain bike with the proceeds.
