What is really better, Trek or Specialized?
 

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, if so I do apologize. I have one of each and I have been wondering which brand is more popular? I see Specialized advertised more than I see trek. Thanks in advance.

That tells you where their money goes. Trek is pretty good, I see no reason to like specialized in particular.

Your post are two different questions. The title asks "which is better?" There is no right or wrong or definitive answer to this. They are both good.

Your second question is "which brand is more popular?" I don't have any empirical evidence, just anecdotal and I believe they are pretty equal in this regard.

Just enjoy each of your bikes and call it a day.

They have the same parts on them. All bikes are built to a price point, when comparing bikes at the same level, they are all about the same. They will cut cost somewhere in the build so they can make one component better and focus their advertising on that component.

Your title asks which is better, but then you ask which is more popular. Two different questions altogether. There is no objective answer to the first question and you can look up sales figures if you want to know the answer to the second one.

Which company is better? Which bike is better? Who's bikes are better? They're all made overseas. They are not really made here. All bike companies are like that.

I don't care for Trek's naming strategy- the whole anagram thing. Which is which and how to pronounce Domane?

I had a 5200, or was it a 120, or was it an OCLV?

So if I am looking for a vintage steel road bike by either brand, are there a few models that jump out as highly desirable? To me, bikes that are highly sought after 20-30 years after being manufactured says far more about the quality of the bikes than what is promoted as the best ever in 2020-2021.

Neither is "better", no bike brand is "better". They all do the same thing. Buy the one that you like that fits your riding and your budget and go ride.

But for the record, Giant is the best. :thumb:

Trek 660. My first “real” road racer. Campy Nuovo and Modolo brakes in black with aero levers. Bought it used and rode the crap out of it until it developed a crack in the headtube. Became a trainer bike until I dialed it up to 500W and snapped the right chainstay in 1991 after rehabbing from heart surgery.

That you need to rush out and buy a fist full of loto tickets.

If this is to be a proper train wreck, it needs more Giant.

And speaking of brands with weird naming habits, my Giant is apparently named after optical character recognition.

But to be really train wrecky, it won't be complete unless Bike's Direct is brought into the mix.

Not sure it's really an oversight, though. Cannondale is sort of second-tier in scale. Not a knock on their bikes, mind you.

The better one is the on that FITS.

I have a Trek road bike and a Cannondale CX. These fit my body and needs best.

Both are excellent at what they do.
