Calabria. What a beautiful place and hopefully not too overrun by tourists.

25 miles, great weather, mid 60's, but still went with a shell, as a NW wind made it feel much cooler. I started with regular jersey, got cold after a few miles. I need to invest in gear for these in between conditions, arm warmers, long sleeves, thermal jersey, etc.

rsbob 10-22-23 08:34 PM

Yesterday, an hour of fake miles in Watopia. Today 42 real miles with temps in the low 50s.

leaves are nice to see, but to ride on, they can heavily increase face planting as well as some clogging of the cogs. Every year during the leafy drop time, the clogging is a guarantee to happen at least thwrice times.

Last ride before temps plunge tomorrow and the rain/snow begins. 1000’ in two miles.

No big miles for me, 2 rides in the last 2 days for a total of 30 miles and 3600' gain. In my defense, I'm a bit injured...slipped on some rocks and dislocated my pinky finger. I quickly set it myself before the pain set in. My whole hand ended up bruised and swollen, yesterday's ride was very painful...today it's a lot better. Rainy yesterday, sunny today.

Yesterday was the road bike, today was my cyclocross bike I cobbled together. I use that term loosely, as it's actually an endurance road bike frame that I converted to 1x and squeezed 33c CX tires on.

I didn't ride that far today. Just from the hotels in Kent up to SeaTac and then over to the Des Moines Marina Pier and back. Man, there are sure some hills out here.

Built up a new used bike. I had carbon clincher wheels and Ultegra 6800 components from a now-retired bike, so I found this Ultimate that had some minor damage from chain suck. A little DIY carbon repair and it's in business. The frame is an insanely light "climber" frame, but the rest of the components aren't exactly weight weenie status...even so, it's still over 2lbs lighter than my Endurace cf sl disc.

It's responsive on the hills, even got my first Strava segment on it today. Now I'm just waiting on a couple odds and ends. I need a longer stem, but DHL is taking their sweet time with the new stem I ordered. The OG Ultegra 6800 crankset is starting to delaminate, so I stole the 8000 crank off of the Endurace until I can get the 6800 recalled.https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...584c99c4b0.png

Yes, there are definitely some hills out that way. Pretty much all over the area you can find some pretty steep hills and long gradual climbs.

Sorry to hear about your finger. Such a drag.

Beautiful bike.

Will be in your neck of the woods for a couple of days and then jetting home. Bike will have a few days off.

Haha, love that Southern charm! I did a 25-miler today, not too shabby, right? 🚴‍♂️💪 How was your 32-mile ride?

diphthong 10-27-23 03:36 AM

fairly easy, 15-spot, lunch ride for some chili and beef brisket. may have "intooken" more calories than expended.
