She introduced me to a lot of 60s/70s rock I wasn't into before - Joplin, Crosby Stills & Nash, etc. - because most of that stuff wasn't played on the pop channels in the big city where I grew up.

When I was in my early teens I knew all the lyrics to all the Dylan songs I heard. Still remember a lot of them.
Certainly you've heard of The Byrds? They did lots of Dylan songs.

I’ve been noticing that my garmin has a speed discrepancy whenever there are trees in the equation. Today I was tracking along the cap trail at 19 mph when I came upon some trees. My speed immediately dropped to 14-16 mph. My wattage, and cadence stayed the same and I didn’t shift gears. The trees are disrupting the unit from tracking speed.

My question, if it’s disrupting speed can be disrupting distance?

Not a huge deal, but It was all I could think about while I was pedaling this morning.

I don’t think it will disrupt distance. The speed should correct itself as well when you finish the route.

Just talked to a paralegal at the firm handling a riding buddy's case against a motorist whose actions injured him and which I witnessed. Bad stuff and I hope he succeeds.

Instantaneous readings can be off a little because of obstructions, but they correct when signal is there, specially for more or less straight-line travel. If you're anal retentive or have mondo tree coverage and you're zig-zagging all over the place, like some MTBers, then you get a wheel sensor to supplement the GPS.

Luckily I am not anal retentive.

A person I follow on strava was hit this week. Luckily he didn’t go down and as far as I can tell he wasn’t injured.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain sensor on my front wheel.

I prefer to think of this. I recall watching it on tv (before we had colour tv) when I was a kid in the late '50s. Loved the movie (the original), but I had horrible nightmares after. I was 8 or 9, iirc. Those Martians were everywhere at night. I was and still am a serious space opera fan.

There are some spots on my usual ride where my indicated speed jumps around a lot. I'm reasonably certain I'm not dropping from 27mph down to 25 and then back up to 27 over the course of a second or two. I suspect it's something to do with the speed sensor and GPS disagreeing at a time when I'm riding over underground high voltage power lines, despite ANT+, because with my older cyclocomputer, it just stopped indicating cadence and speed when I was directly over the part of the road they trenched.

Not everyone appreciates a good map, it seems. So it goes.

You might find a better audience at mapforums.net, possibly.

One would think cyclists are interested in geography.

Definitely.

BTW...Did you know that the show was made for adults?

"Good" is subjective, in this case.

Only Dylan album I own. Idiot Wind is probably my favorite track.

"Even you, yesterday, you had to ask me where it was at. I couldn't believe, after all these years, you didn't know me any better than that, sweet la-dyyyyy."

I feel confident in saying that a 1955 map of MEA's routes will have zero affect on where I ride my bike.

badger1 12-14-21 01:29 PM

Speaking of Bob Dylan ... first three 'albums' I bought for myself in the very early '60s. Still have the Dylan and Brubeck ones; rather the worse for wear, but playable. With the Beatles got lost somewhere along the way.
