BH59 vs. BH90 for Folding Bike

Hi everyone,

Would it be correct to assume that a BH59 hydraulic brake line is less likely to break with the repeated folding and unfolding of a bike than the stiffer BH90?

It'd be incorrect to assume. However if you've had troubles with one, you might try the other just to see. What do other mfr's put on their folding bikes with Shimano hydraulic brakes?

I couldn't tell you. I looked at a few bikes on Tern's website and none of their specs actually mention the type of brake line they use; "Shimano, hydraulic" is all they say. My bike - a Dahon - originally came with mechanical brakes; the Shimano hydraulic combinations I upgraded to came pre-assembled and pre-bled with BH90 lines. I try to be as careful as I can whenever I fold and unfold the bike; zero issues so far.

I'd stick with the BH90 till you have an actual problem. It's my understanding that the BH90 will perform better for most other things related to hydraulic brakes. Best way to find out is to use it and see. Since you have it already it'd seem a missed chance to find out how well it does.

BH90 is newer / more recent

found on the better and upper level models

stick with BH90

( please note: I believe BH59 and BH90 use different barbs - so be aware when working on them or swapping )
